Hi there,

I'm in the Mount Wellington area of Auckland and I am looking for a LGTB-friendly midwife. My due date is March 27th 2013. Does anyone have any suggestions, know where to look or have friends they can get recommendations from?

Thank you!!

Hi,
Not sure about Mt Wellington but I know some great ones in Papakura.
Most MW's I've come across are all very accepting and have treated us like they would anybody else.
You could try asking the rainbow families nz group

Hi, I met with 3 different midwives (of which one was gay although I only found out later), they were all totally fine with us being a lesbian couple. I think most would be, but I actually said it in my initial phone conversation so they knew straight away, and so that I could judge their reaction before I bothered to meet with them. The Auckland based one that we chose only takes on 2 patients for each month though so will definitely be booked by now. The one we chose for the 2nd pregnancy was not based in Auckland as we have moved.

You need to start ringing around ASAP though as most midwives seem to book up very quickly, and most women book one in at about 4-6 weeks pregnant...so you may be lucky to find one that has space when you are due?

I was wondering what LGTB meant...LOL
I knew one in Manukau at the midwives place next to Rainbows End. Not sure what you mean by "friendly" as i assume that most midwives arent really interestd in what your orientation is but rather the type of care you want.
