Topic: Night toilet training Posted: 16 February 2012 at 2:01pm |
Ava is 3 1/2 and is toilet trained during the day. But in the morning her nappy is soaking wet. When and how do I start toilet training at night? Is the wet nappy an indication that she isnt ready yet, or should i just start it anyway? HELP!

I have this problem too denny25 - my DD is 3 and TT during the day but only dry overnight once every so often. I took DD out of nappies overnight and just ended up with a wet Brolly sheet. I'm not sure what the answer is. Hopefully someone out there can advise.

I would just wait. Ella was daytime TT when she was 2Y2M but wasn't nighttime TT until she was 4 1/4, For us it was a very gradual process and there was nothing really I could do...we still have to take her to the toilet around 8.45 every night.

Hannah has just turned 4 and has been TT during the day since 2y11m. She's still fully wet overnight.
We talk to her about wearing knickers to bed and so on, so she knows about not wearing a nappy at night, but she's just not ready yet.
She goes to the toilet before we put her nappy on at bed time and goes as soon as she gets up, but her nappy is always full in the morning.
I think it's just something they "click" on to when they're ready

I absolutley agree with MamaPickle. It is definitely a 'click' moment. My daughter was day TT at 3 years 3 months and has only been night toilet trained for about 5 months. I realised one morning that the nappy I was taking off her was really warm and started wondering if she was holding all night and then doing a massive wee first thing in the morning. I ended up putting her in pull ups overnight and encouraging her to get up and go to the toilet during the night if she felt the need. She wore the pull ups for about 3 months and after the first week only had a few accidents in them. After a few months I was brave enough to get rid of them and we have only had 1 accident since.
I dreaded the process but waiting until she was ready and showing lots of signs made it really easy

Phew, reading all these made me much happier! DD was day toilet trained at 1Y10M and had very few accidents since but is still saturated in the morning at now 2Y8M. I was wondering when it was ever going to end!! Thanks!

Same here aswel. DD is no where near ready. She hates nappies and its such a effort to get them on her but if i let her go without she wets the best within 3 hours and is then really upset.
Hopefully one day soon she will just click and it will all fall into place

I think all children can be different, with my first one he was not TT at night until 4 and a 1/4, but the second was TT at night just after he was 3, I did not rush them and we had hardly any accidents, once I did no nappies at night, the big clue for me was when they woke up the nappy was dry, for more than a week, now I just have to get number 3 out of nappies!
