My 2 and 1/2 year old boy is a great sleeper normally but has lately started waking a few times a night plus getting up early in the morning. I have a few friends with boys a similar age and thinking about it I realise their boys have also had sleep problems in recent times. Just wondered if this is a widespread problem and if anyone knows a reason why? I'm hoping it's a testosterone thing and that it will pass... soon! He's dropped his daytime nap and is obviously plenty tired at bed time so I don't think lack of tiredness is the cause.

Aiden is 2 next month, so a little younger but his sleep has been shocking the last 2 months- I was putting it down to teething his molars which is atking forever.

My daughter who is nearly 3 has never been a good sleeper but we have had this issue for ages. Im not sure why she does it but i think its just that she wants cuddles etc and wants reassurance that im there

Thanks James for your suggestion, I think overtired could be something to do with it, I have read up on it and it seems this can cause sleep problems. I have been getting him to bed a bit earlier and it seems to have improved things a little. I will keep trying.

Heat? I know DS1's room is super hot at bed time, so he sleeps on top of the bed. But by 3 or 4 am it's chilly in comparason.
DS1 isn't a good sleeper so probably not the best example. They can start getting nightmares as their imagination kicks in.
I've also heard that their bodies "want" to toilet train, so they start waking up to go pee in the middle of the night (rather than just wetting in their sleep).
