I know they're controversial but I think my son may need them soon for his own safety! He has no fear of anything and is very independent (ie. will run off without hesitation) Has anyone used them?

Get the ones that are attached to a little back pack. They don't look so obvious. Don't get the hand one cause they hate them.

I have some and they are great. I have the little pack ones. I've gotten dirty looks, but I'd rather that than an independently running under 2 who doesn't want to hold my hand and will run off 'to be funny'. Mine actually likes putting her pack on.

I got one yesterday for my son who tried to run off in the boxing day sales
I got the harness type but will buy the backpack ones today online. I put it on him but also held his hand and just had the harness incase he tried to run off again, which he did!

No issue here I'll use them if I think they'll be helpful at the time (no need yet).

I used the harness ones coz G had a habit of disappearing when I took my eyes off her. They were invaluable. Yes, I did get some dirty looks but it was worth it!

We have the cutest back pack style ones, and who cares what other people think - the safety of my daughter is far more important.

Those who judge have never had a 'runner'
Id get the back pack ones.
Luckily my runner settled down once #2 arrived. But i nearly got some.
If its going to keep your child out of harm i wouldnt hesitate

I used the backpack type ones with DD, they worked a charm!
Ignore the looks, I'd rather have dirty looks than a runaway child in a busy mall/parking lot.

This is a tricky one, I always swore Id never used them and really didn't like them, but I have an extremely active extremely quick toddler who can nearly run and hates his pram so I know it's only a matter of time before he'll want to walk when we go out. I too would rather use them than have something bad happen! So like most parenting ideas I had before having a baby, I might have to change my mind! People will find any reason they like to judge so I would just ignore them and do what you feel is right :) I like the idea of the backpack ones, I fear my DS would take the backpack off lol

I have them for DS, my mum had them for me and her mum probably had them for her! Ignore the judgy people out there. I'm not damaged for being kept on reins, in fact I know for a fact that I'm not damaged BECAUSE I was kept on them! I have no doubt that they save lives.
Is the only reason you're not using them because you're worried about getting dirty looks from strangers? If you want them, buy them. Stuff what anyone else thinks, the safety of your child is what matters.

We bought a pack pack style one from nurtured in Hamilton last week, DS is not walking yet, but I am betting I'll have a runner on my hands in no time. Stuff the judgers!

I used the wrist harness one, DD1 was super active (still is) and disppeared on me today actually raarrr thats another story, anyway the wrist harness has certainly saved her life on a few occasions as she was and still is a runner, squeezed out once between the trolley and checkout straight out the mall thru the auto doors and was on the ROAD before I got to her. had to abandon the newborn in carseat on top of trolley to some random stranger to chase after her, after that episode it was wrist harness, they cant get them off like the back packs

My folks used them on me! And DH says he understands why as I tend to wander off in the mall lol he said I have the attention span of a toddler. One of my earliest memories is getting lost in the supermarket when I was little, so I get why my folks had to use them.
I wouldn't be against using them if Evie's a runner or a wanderer.

We got my son some as he doesn't like sitting in the buggy for too long and prefers walking...at 17 months he's just a bit too young to fully 'listen' and is extremely adventurous. I love them! Got him a super cute puppy backpack from Farmers when there was a sale. Never had any dirty looks, only positive ones to be honest!
