Topic: Plunket Visits? Posted: 28 February 2010 at 8:24pm |
Went to my coffee group this morning and we got talking about Plunket. All our children had their 2 year visits between 1-3 months ago and some of them were told that plunket is no longer doing 3 year or before school checks as they have no funding.
Has anyone else been told this?

I have my twins booked in for their 3 yr visit in a couple of weeks! I'm in Palmy.....maybe different areas are cutting back? Or did they mean that their 2 yr old wont be getting a 3 yr check??

?? No haven't heard that, although I did assume the b4 school check was a doctor's one anyway for some reason.

its likely to be different in different areas. I think the 3yr check here is still done by Plunket, but they lost their bid for the B4 school checks, so can't do that one. I think she said it went to Piki Ti Ora (In taranaki anyways), who are way less staffed than Plunket, but then saw that a district nurse was calling families about them at the daycare - we never heard from anyone, and needless to say because I was uncertain where exactly to get one, Ivy didn't get hers.

Ella had her B4 school check done by a public health nurse last year when the big changeover happened.
I did think it was odd that I hadn't heard from Plunket about Benjy's 3 year check. Normally ours are really on to it and call months ahead to book.
Might give them a ring today and find out!

Interesting, I would have thought it was standard around the country with Plunket.
Who knows then!

I'm pretty sure different regions have different programmes. I've had 4, 6, 8, and soon to have 10 and 12 week visits from plunket but other mums in the december thread have just had 6 and 12.

Im not with plunket, im with awura soical services. Think we had a 3yr old check up wih jacob , i know we did when he turned 4, they weighed him cos they were weighing Isabella too that day.
And we had his before school check last year in november down at the kindy, a plunket nurse was there.

Just spoke to my plunket nurse as she phoned to make an appt for my 5 month old.
Apparently funding to Plunket has been cut so they no longer do 3 year checks. If you already have a baby in the system they do but new babies will not get 3 year checks.
I asked if this was nation wide and apparently it is as its government funding.
Really disappointing I think!

I just got the Plunket newsletter for our area and they are talking about 3.5 year checks in it so I guess the ones that are in the system are also being pushed out a bit too.

Yip, and apparently they are trying to do the 2 year check slightly later now as well so that kids are in the plunket system for longer.

Charlotte has just had her B4 school hearing and vision test done at preschool and she's not 4 until March 20th?! Was good though as we found out her hearing in one ear is quite poor, we had no idea
Rang plunket about 4 weeks ago to make an appt for Harry's 2 year check and haven't been rung back. Maybe because they are going to do it later on now?
