Thought I'd point out some things that I wasn't aware of at first. TBH I never thought about them.
Midwives are real people just like us, they have a job to do & they need to take a break, if they don't then they run the risk of burnt out.
They do have rostered weekends off. You will be come more aware of these much later on in your pregnancy, they have been doing them the whole way along, it's just later that you are aware of it.
They do have multiple ladies, usually staggered births but we all know that they don't go to plan. So you might not be first in when you call your midwife when you go into labour, or you might be the first, but when it comes to the push bit, another lady might have jumped the queue while your labour is building & is delivery faster than you are.
Ask who your midwives back up are early on in the piece, but that midwife will really only be there for your delivery & maybe a day after and then your midwife will take back over.
Also midwives are not hands on during your labour, that is what your support crew is there for. I do recall wondering what my first midwife was doing...she was filling in screeds of paperwork. They are there for the crunch part but up til that point all they do is monitor you & baby.
Yes and sometimes that back up is just great

My first baby was delivered by the back up, my 2nd baby was delivered by a replacement midwife that came on board later when my first midwife left due to possible burn out.
This is life...things never go perfectly to plan
