Hi, Has anyone applied for the unemployment benefit recently and if so what sort of questions do they ask you. Do they ask how much savings you have or anything like that? And what other questions do they ask regarding finances or assets?

Are there similar questions when it comes to any redunancy benefits also

Any help would be most appreciated

I just got made redundant and they asked me about my employment details including salary, finishing date, final pay details, what assets I have, what my housing costs are, how many kids I have, evidence of kids, bank account and tax number etc.

Their website is quite informative and will tell you what you need to bring in, how much you can get and what top ups you might qualify for.

If you get made redundant there is an extra couple of top ups you can get. One if your housing costs are high, and the other if you qualified for the in-work tax credit but no longer qualify because you are no longer working the required hours. If you qualify you get this for 16 weeks. I showed them the letter from my company confirming that my position had been disestablished and my employment terminated on the grounds of redundancy.

At 32 weeks preggy you can go onto the Sickness benefit. Well, you can go onto it from 27 weeks.

Other than that, what jaz said is pretty accurate from my experience.

They will want to know your assets and if you have any kind of savings and the amounts. This may affect the amount you get paid, or they may even delay the start of your payments if they expect you to live off your savings.

If you were paid out a redundancy package (they will want documentation) they may delay the start of the payments also.

I believe its also income tested on partners. I couldn't get the sickness benefit when pregnant because of what DP earned
