    Posted: 20 February 2007 at 3:17pm
I have got a highchair for Ashleigh but am starting to regret not doing a bit of research on them first. The one I have is a love n care brand. It is very basic which my sis told me is a good thing as the flash one are all padded and are buggers to clean. But I have since used my other sisters while around there and it is a flash one and sooo much better than mine! Maybe it is just because Ashleigh is still small but mine doesn't recline, isn't height adjustable and the straps go right over the top of the seat (sis's come out from 3/4 the way up) so Ash's ears get all squished    So I'm thinking of buying another and flicking this one on Trademe but I can't afford to spend a fortune. Anyone have any recommendations or comments? Oh and we don't have a dining room table so can't get one of the portable strap on jobbies

I've got one of the Mothers Choice straight back ones from Farmers (the one with blue gingham and giraffes etc) which was a hand me down. I'm always looking on Trade Me for one that reclines and is height adjustable, most go for over $100 tho

Most of the flash ones come with a removeable cover and straps so you can put them in the wash so they should be fairly easy to keep clean.

We have a baby first one that reclines and the seat height goes up and down etc...really good. They are around $140.

I have one similar to Toni's and mostly it's ok to clean except that not all of the straps detach. It doesn't recline either, but once baby can sit up I wouldn't have used that option. And before baby can sit properly I use a bouncy/rocker. I'm surprised that with an 8mo you want a recline option? (Fill me in here, I'm going to need to upgrade in a year or two when the cover goes)

Hey Busymum, Ashleigh was born at 26 weeks so developmentally and physically is like a 5 month old. Having said that she has just started sitting in the last week or so. I just find the back of my highchair too straight and if she isn't leaning forward sitting up herself then she tends to slip sideways.

Caitlin has been sitting unassisted since 4 months old but because the back is so upright she still manages to slip sideways in the chair

I've actually found it easier to feed her when she's sitting on the floor

Btw - which straps come off? I can't see where they come off and ours are getting grubby

Hmmm, I never had a prob with Maya sliding/leaning forward with ours (Kingston Portafold similar to the MC) but when Erin was in it today she was quite keen on leaning out the front of it, so will have to wait and see how the gremlins go. Mum and Dad have a flasher padded one they got a at a garage sale.

Kelly I forgot to allow for that (prem) and of course, that's what my girls have done on the first few tries at around 5mos too.

The waist straps can come off at the sides, there is a split metal bar/clip where you can ease the strap out of. I didn't realise they could come off, Janine (Mum2Paris) told me that's what she does and then chucks them through the washing machine. Unfortunately the middle strap gets the dirtiest but can't do much about that

r u in palmy or near palmy nth???? i have a "flash" mothers choice chair we dont use anymore.it reclines, height adjusts  etc.there r a couple of bits that have come off(like a round cap and a lil thingy that u push, button still there tho, in the raise the arms but does not affect safety etc).Id sell it for round $50ish(was around $130 new 3 yrs ago from baby city and was their country check(?) range.I found it really easy to clean as the whole padded seat part comes right off and the straps do to i think from memory.they tray has a faint black smudge from god knows what and has 2 cup holder bits(well sunken in holes for bottle etc).

Oh it also is on castor wheels and the 2 front wheels have breaks on them too.

Ohhhh that's brakes

I have so much trouble with that word. We pull up at the lights and hear this squeaking sound nearby, Hannah asks what the noise is and I'm like "uh, that's the truck breaking...er putting on its brakes... blah"
