Michaela was initially a cloth baby when I was a SAHM and then my DH continued putting her in cloth most of the time but when he started working too we started using sposies full time.

Now we've decided to put her back in cloth. She hates being wet so we're hoping that putting her into cloth nappies is going to help encourage toilet training (fingers crossed). I wanted to put her straight into training pants but DH wasn't keen.

So, at 2 yo and close to toilet training, I'm not going to spend a whole heap on buying pocket nappies or anything but I have 100 old style nappies (not exaggerating) and I've just bought some large overnaps on trade me.

So now I've posted it I have to stick with it - wish me luck.

She seems pretty smart - I don't think trainer pants is such a bad idea. You can get some with room to stuff an extra insert in for the first stage of TTing.

Good luck! My daughter was no where near ready at 2yrs old and being pregnant with no. 2 I wasn't in any hurry to push the subject. However, at 2.5yrs when baby brother was born she decided she wanted to use the potty herself! We put it in the lounge where all her toys were and let her run around with a bare bum when we were home in the afternoons. She would just go and sit on the potty & wee (much to our amazement). However, if she was in a nappy or pull up she'd just wet it. She didn't want to have to stop what she was doing to take her pants off & go to the bathroom! It only took a couple of weeks before we felt brave enough to go out without a nappy. Michaela might surprise you too

I said that to DH. The week before last I was at home and I was stuffing the old style nappies into the training pants for extra absorbancy but they are so bulky it's hard to get the training pants over them, which is why I bought the overnaps (and they were only 5 for $25 - the equivalent of one week in sposies - so not a huge loss if she doesn't use them very long).

As I said I don't want to spend too much on nappies or inserts but I have thought of making my own inserts, any fabric suggestions? I have copious amounts of old towels and heaps of cotton and microfleece fabric.

Another option which I've considered is buying pads (the big wide ones) and putting those in her training pants.
