Topic: How do i..... Posted: 30 June 2009 at 8:00pm |
Ok, so i have made a few MCN's and wanna use them but if i put DS2 in them he wets thru his clothing within a couple of hours. when i can buy disposables for 30c each, it doesn't seem very cost effective to be going through so many cloth nappies with all the washing etc. Altho i do think they would be better for his exzema. Can someone please give me either some suggestions or a kick up the backside to get my a into g & use them? Thanks

Hi,
What are you using as inserts ?? i presume its pockets you're using?
You might need to put some hemp or bamboo in behind the mf to give it a bit more absorbancy :)
with a bit of trial and error I'm sure you'll find a combo that works for you... and you'll never look back

Warning, barrage of questions!
I assume you've made pockets? Are they stitch and turn or have you used FOE? What are you stuffing them with and how many layers? Is he wetting the inserts through or do the nappies seem to be leaking out somewhere? Did you just use cotton thread?

ok..... they are pockets & i have folded old school (new) cloth nappies in them. just used cotton? they seem to leak out the inner leg area. and yes the padding is soaked thru. i bought a hemp nappy to try & it was similar

Hi,
Try putting two cloth nappy's in as inserts... or buying a bamboo one to try (you can get a good bamboo insert from Baby Factory, they are peapod ones and you can buy them separately to the nappies.) But Bamboo does increase in absorbancy the more it is washed.. but it should help in the short term as well.
How many times has the hemp nappy being washed... as it can take up to 10 or so washed for it to be at its full absorbancy.
If you have a hemp nappy, I presume it its a fitted, so you therefore have a cover... you could always try putting the cover over your pocket with an extra flannel or something between the outside of the pocket and the cover as a bit of extra insurance against leaks onto his clothing until you get your insert combo right??
Good luck

apologies, it isn't hemp it's the bamboo peapod. i bought one from the baby factory to try out. My pocket nappies wouldn't fit two cloth nappies in them I may try putting the bamboo insert in it too tho.

sometimes if their clothes are a bit tighter around the nappy it can cause compression wicking...body suits are specially prone to do it. also some kids just do need to be changed more often...i like the peapods bamboo inserts and havent had problems with them at all but i think 3 hours on and they need changing.
