Okay, I need some serious advice here.
I have an appointment with the obstetrics team at chch womans on tuesday. My midwife organised this for them to meet me and discuss birth options etc. Now, the problem I have is - because I have chocolate fish brains at the moment, I have no idea what I should be asking them!! I know one of the most important things I should be asking is - because I have compressed discs all thru my lower back - what will my pain relief options be for when I have a c-section, and ive been told to really push for one because of my back problems. But can anyone else suggest what I should be asking? I'll have to write everything down cuz I dont remember things lol.. any advice would be welcomed!

Perhaps ask how your back may affect things when you are heavily pregnant as that may make you back problem worse and would be good to know what pain relief etc you can have for that.
I suppose once you know whether or not they will do elective c/s then you will know what questions to ask. They may want to give you general to do it as a spinal might not be possible in your case. In which case they will probably talk to you a bit about the actual procedure and how it varies from having a spinal (I know that your partner can be at a spinal but not if you have a general).
You will probably find that they will talk over all the options with you and give you information to take away and mull over, and that you will be able to discuss questions at a later appointment, or perhaps via phone, or you midwife could probably answer most of them as well.

So I had my appointment today - man that was a complete waste of time. They've decided that I'm going to have a normal vaginal birth after my gp protested and said he wants me in for a caesar because of my back problems, but they said no, I can have as much drugs as I want to take away the pain, bla bla bla, which wasnt my concern - my concern was AFTER the birth cuz of the hormones settling all the ligaments down and contracting, are they gonna settle properly on my spine and not make my issues worse... It really sucked, they seemed to want to just tell me what I should be wanting, and pushed me out of the door real fast. Its quite scary really :( Oh and of course he said the normal 'we'll do a caesar if it's an emergency' line, which is great, but now i'm left hanging in limbo and i've gotta change all my birth plan and everything :/

Thanks :D I am very nervous about seeing chiropractors, ive had bad experiences in the past. They're referring me to physio so that will be a start I guess. I just hate not knowing what I have to do :/

I had physio in both my previous pregnancies as I had SPD and problems with sacro iliac joint and I found it was really helpful. The back problems did affect how I gave birth, I gave birth on my back as it apparently puts less pressure on the joints, but I have succesfully given birth to 3 babies vaginally. I did have epidurals both times, the first time I don't remember it being a problem, but I injured my L6/L7 joints when Maya was 15 mths old and when I had the epi put in with the gremlins the anaesthatist (sp) did have a few issues finding a spot to put it and then it failed so I have pretty much zero chance of being able to have one again this time round.

Alex, I'm sorry today didn't go as planned & I really don't know what to say. I would think that recovery after a c/sect could be more for your body to deal with than a vb as would normally be the case. Your body goes thru the same preperation ie ligaments & muscles getting ready for birth & you will have the same hormonal changes whichever way you go. Maybe if you could find or the specialist could give you some information where there have been successful cases similar to yours it would give you a bit more confidance & reasurance.
