Topic: How much do they grow last month? Posted: 22 January 2008 at 7:07pm |
Just wondering how much babies grow in the last 4 weeks or so before they are born? I have a feeling its quite a bit - like close to 1kg?
I had a growth scan today and they estimated bubs is 7lb 3 at 36w. So predicting a reasonably large baby.
I am not actually that worried about having a big baby, just curious. And I know that these late scans can be a big difference either side of that weight. Han was 8lb 5 so was expecting bigger this time.
Everything else at the scan was fine, no problems. And she was most definitely a GIRL. I had been really worried that the 20w scan was going to be wrong and I'd pop out a boy, but even we could tell!!

Just for your info on my experience, the scan told us Lauren was over 7lbs at 34 weeks so we were expecting giganta baby too! At 38 weeks she decided to come early - tahnk god cause she was 9lbs!! If she had come on time or later they guestimated she would have been over 11lbs!

I had a scan at around 35-36 weeks with my first and it was estimated that he was around 2.5 kgs at the time and was born at 2.9 kgs at 39.5 weeks.

They gain 1/2 lb per week or around 250g per week.
Maya's growth estimate was 7lb9oz at 36 weeks and she was born at 38 weeks 9lb 1oz. I don't think birthing a bigger baby was ay harder tho, it was no different to birthing the much-smaller gremlins.
Just the same my midwife is keen to get this one out around 38 weeks!

Cooper was estimated at 5pds at 37wks, he arrived at 39wks and weighed 7pds 2oz. He was tiny, compared to my other two.

Josh grew heaps in the last few weeks. My OB thinks that it may have been late GD.
Andrew on the other hand didn't really grow all that much in the last fews - ran out of room with all the fluid.

I'm convinced that Elle didn't grow a lot in that last month...I certainly didn't get any bigger after 37 weeks but they do apparently put on more fat during that time.
ETA to add that as fluid around bubs reduces I guess bubs can get bigger without the bump changing.

Me and DH were talking last night and he said he just wants our baby to be here and for everything to settle down - you know get past those first few weeks, then get on with our new bigger family. Was quite sweet really. Its not so much that I'm sick of being preggy (tho I am!) but all I want is my baby. Not long now... Fingers crossed that I get one of those angels too aye?! Glad to hear things are going well with you, dont see you much on here anymore

At my 37 week scan they said it was hard to tell (her head was so far engaged they couldn't measure it after 32 weeks!) but estimated 7 pounds. She was 6 pounds 2 at 41.5 weeks.
