Topic: Norethisterone, what are your experiences Posted: 21 September 2008 at 3:52pm |
Okay, this is a really long story and I apologise in advance but I really need to get some advise and hear other peoples experiences.
We are currently TTC #2 but have been unlucky so far. I am having alot of problems with a very frequent cycle. My average cycle length is 12 days. Which is obviously not long enough to fall pregnant. My GP has run blood tests and at this stage everything looks 'normal' (hormones etc).
I have been back to the doc a number of times and I am getting extremely frustrated. At my last appointment my GP prescribed me Norethisterone to try and break my cycle in the hope that this will kick start my cycle into a more 'normal' cycle. The downside is that I cannot fall pregnant while on this medication. I have to admit that I am fairly new to all of this and I really dont know much. I really dont understand how this is going to fix my cycle.
I would love to hear from anyone that has been in a similar situation or that knows anything else about this medication. Like I said I really dont know much so at this stage any suggestions would be welcomed.

Have u tried a natural approach? Like seeing a naturpoath? I went to see one for pnd, but they confirmed a lot of my prob was hormonal post having #1. The natural cream and meds they prescribed corrected my cycle length to a regular 28 days as well as helping a lot with the pnd, constipation, severe pmt etc.
I know this is not the same as you, but might be worth a go.

Yes, I have been on Vitex for a while now. My GP said it was best to stop taking it while I am on the norethisterone.
I called my GP yesterday to double check what she wants me to do after I have taken the first two weeks worth of norethisterone. Before I could even ask her she told me that I need to have another blood test done and to pick the form up from reception as she was going to be on holiday next week. This means that I dont need the bloods done until late next week.
Anyway, ill get to the point in a second. She told me to finsh the two weeks and not bother with the rest of the meds. I thought this was odd as when she had prescribed it she told me that I would probably need more than a couple of cycles with the meds.
But anyway, when I picked up the test form I saw that in the patient clinical details she has put PCO....WTF!!! I looked up the tests that she has ordered and they are tests which are done when dealing with PCOS, why didn't she say anything to me?? I can't ring and ask cause she is now on holiday.....Im so frustrated and worried.
Sorry for the vent, there is nothing that I can do at the moment so I dont know why I am so stressed about it. Hmmmmmmmmm what to do lol
