Who has changed midwives during pregnancy?
How did you go about telling your current midwive and when did you advise her your care was going to change?
I am moving from the Manawatu to West Auckland in October, I have a lovely midwife here and have got someone lined up in Akl - not sure when do tell my current midwife that we are relocating - I'm reluctant to tell her too early in case she drops me as a client - but need to keep her informed as well.
Any suggestions would be helpful.

Personally I would tell her now, it will give her the opportunity to take on another Nov patient and Im sure she will keep you on as she will still get paid for your antenatal visits.....

I thought I'd have to relocate earlier on in my pregnancy. I told her upfront and she was incredibly supportive, right down to offering to organise the new midwife for me.
Thankfully it didn't happen, I like her!

I sort of changed midwives. We moved just before Esme was born so I did dual care for a few weeks before she was born so I didn't have to travel too much and so I could build a relationship with my new one. Then my main midwife did my birth then I had a new one for my post natal, but she was also prepared to do my birth if that's how things went.
I would inform her now so that she knows what is going on. She will still get paid for the part of the care that she has done so far.

Just tell her you are moving in October, it's not like you are unhappy with her care!! I moved when 31 wks pregnant and told my MW a month before hand (as soon as we knew we were moving) and she was completely fine.....arranged copies of my notes and results etc to take with me, made sure I had had all my bloodtests etc done before I moved just in case I couldn't get a new MW straight away.
If you let her know now, it also means she can sort out her books (IYKWIM) she can arrange to take on another client if one pops up, or book herself a wee holiday!!
It would be unethical for her to drop you as a client just because you are moving!!

I think you will be fine to tell her too CJ......gosh I had to change MW because I didnt like mine....I dropped her by text  ..then of course ran into her when I went for my next appointment with the new one.......awkward  
Oh...I didnt tell her I didnt like here BTW...made up some other lame excuse

I am just about to change midwives because I'm unhappy with her care to date. I meet with my new one on Thursday and as soon as I'm confident she can take me I'll have that awkward conversation with the old one.
I fully plan on telling her why I wasn't happy with her care, but that will be an interesting one to tackle!

I'll give her a heads up next time I see her, our accommodation probably won't be confirmed till a couple of weeks before we move.
DH will hopefully be able to sort something as he's moving 3 months before me.

I relocated at about 28 weeks into my pregnancy with Sam. I told my midwife at about 15 weeks and she was really supportive and said she would sent my notes through to my new midwife when I swapped.
The only downside to my situation was that it was so incredibly hard to get to know my new midwife. I didn't really like her and didn't get to build any sort of relationship. I had a c-section anyway so she didn't do much.

The MW I've got lined up for West Auckland I've spoken to and she's lovely, someone I can relate too.
My current MW is good too, but sometimes I feel like its my first day of school with her and I don't have a personal connection with her as much.

I'm moving from central ak to manukau but i want to keep my midwife and will birth at ak hospital. i couldnt bare to change midwives! but she did deliver my last baby so that helps.
