Hello again!

I was wondering how often I should be seeing my midwife at this stage of pregnancy? Is once every 6 weeks or so normal?

I really like my midwife, but she seems a little detatched. At my last visit (my second only) she listened to the heart, but didn't calculate beats per minute or anything. I wasn't weighed or measured either.

I don't really have a problem with this, but when I read stuff it says this should have happened.

Should I be concerned?

Each MW does things slightly differently.

I was seeing my MW once a month. She did all those things and wrote them down.

Perhaps next time just ask if she can do these things for you.

My MW has never weighed me but did ask me how much I weighed prior to getting pregnant,She did see how tall I was though.

i've been seeing mine every four weeks, and she has never weighed me. Last time we heard the baby's heartbeat and she said my tummy felt good for the stage of my pregnancy. she didn't seem to calculate the BPM but said it was about 155, and i suppose they hear so many they can make an educated guess.

She did take my blood pressure - i think this is something that they should do each time (mine has been low)

True, I guess they have heard enough to know if it sounds ok or not! Yes, my midwife has always taken my blood pressure.

I guess it's normal!

My MW always takes my BP but she has never weighed me. She only started measuring me when we went to f/n visits at 28 weeks.
I saw her once a month up until then and go to weekly visits at 36 weeks.

I see mine every 4-5 weeks, was every 4 weeks first time round but by baby #4 I'm pretty aware of what's normal and not normal. She takes my BP, has never weighed me tho, she did ask my weight at booking.

It's normal for them not to measure you till around 28 weeks or so. They will usually feel your tummy from around 20 weeks (by which stage the top of your uterus will be level with your navel) then measure around 28 weeks. From 28 weeks they'll also make you POAS to check for protein/sugar.

Every six weeks seems like a huuuuge time to wait, but in reality there are very few complications that could occur that early in the pregnancy that would be picked up by more frequent visits (pre-eclampsia, GD etc.)

Usually they dont measure you until later on in pregnancy, my midwife only got the tape measure out at my last appointment when I was 31 weeks.
She has only weighed me twice, cos she can see Im not putting on too much weight and I havent lost any so all good.
She does write in my book though babys heartrate after she listens to it.
Each midwife is different, you should be seeing her once a month until you are 28 weeks, then ever two weeks until you are 35 weeks, then the last month its weekly, I have 2 more visits then Im down to weekly.

hey I see my MW every 4 weeks then it becomes fortnightly at 28weeks then weekly in the last month. My Mw has never asked my weight or weighed me but I dnt mind rather not know. I have my blood pressure taken every time and the pee test. When she does the babies heartbeat you can see it on her moniter thingy so I know what it is and she also writes evrything in my midwife notes.

Yep, they're all different! Mine was 6 weeks at first (11 weeks to 17 weeks) then monthly. I'm still on monthly (am 29 weeks) but anticipate that from 32 weeks, when I next go back, I'll be fortnightly. BP only got measured on admission and the last two times. Tummy has been palpated each time and the last two, she's felt for position. Fetal heartbeat gets checked, but the # isn't discussed/recorded. Weight was measured on admission, but not since (thankfully). I now POAS each time. I expected from 28 weeks to be on fortnightly visits, but since everything seems to be OK, I guess they think a 4 week gap from 28-32 weeks is OK.

I saw my midwife for the first time last week and she said she would see me every 4 weeks until 30 weeks, then fortnightly. I don't remember much of the first pg - but this sounds about right. I remember with the first bp was taken every time, and urine tests (protein, sugars etc) was also every time. My mw never weighed me first time around and it seems the same this time. They say they watch the weight and if it looks like too much is going on then they do something about it.

But each mw is different - as long as they see you regular and you are able to contact them whenever you need to. Don't hesitate to ring and ask questions if you are concerned.

Hi Laurie

I'm seeing my midwife every 4 weeks at the moment.
She takes my blood pressure and we use the doppler to measure bubs heart rate.
She hasn't weighed me but thats because I told her what my starting weight was before pregnancy and what it is each visit. She is happy with this as this way we have a good way to judge how much weight i am putting on as we use only one set of scales.

I'm due to do my pee test at my next visit (21 weeks)and will move to fortnightly visits after 28 weeks.

I think Wellington has quite a big shortage of midwives at the moments so maybe that is why you are only seeing her every 6 weeks at the moment? Hopefully this will improve once you hit the 28 week mark.

Edited due to poor spelling today
