we are with mercury and an empty beach house we use 2-3weekends a month and over summer with only a fridge a bar freezer left on - is costing us the same as home (which is a HUGE house with all electricalson)

anyone know other power companies down there - or can tell us on average what they are paying for a 3 bedroom house in same area - eg thames, whitianga, coromandel, ngatea etc...or a beach house....

mercury is currently finally "investigating" it but arent overly fussed...im sure they think we leave everything turned on BAH!

We are in Waihi and our last power bill when we were only here 2 weeks of the month was around $79. That was with hot water and fridge/freezer only left on when we weren't here. When we are here all the time it can get up to around $200 over winter with a heat pump. We used to live in Hamilton and find power expensive over here. It's the connection charge is about 30% of the bill which is what makes it so much more. We are with trust power

Hope that helps

Have you had a look at Powershop? I know they have a low tarrif for holiday homes. Would be perfect for your situation as they read your meter regularly and you just buy what you need as you need it.
