Topic: OPKs Posted: 07 December 2009 at 1:22pm |
I recently started charting and now want to start using opk's too - but dear lord are they expensive. I got the Discover 7 day which I think where about $25 or so.
How many of them do you use on average per month? Is there anywhere to get them cheaper then buying them at a pharmacy? Reading trough the charting section it sounds like most of us are using a lot of them for a rather long period of time.
There are a few available on trade me - has anybody orderd from there before?

I get mine from Baby 4 You (just throw it into google and it will come up). Last month I got 10 and used them all I think, it was a good number.
I have ordered off TM before and didn't have a problem.

I was going to say TM as well, she sells the same ones as B4Y and a lot cheaper!
In saying that though, I just got the best bargain and scored $47 OPKs for $30 from someone on TM who got preg after buying a big pack of them! Hoping the good luck rubs off on me too hehe
It works out a LOT cheaper to buy the simple dipstick ones, and they are just as reliable as the mid stream tests.

I use dipstick OPK's from Baby4you never had a problem with them and get lots of babydust from them too which is nice.
I have never really noticed any EWCM so this cycle I started taking EPO morning lunch and tea and I noticed a big difference !
I would recommend taking it to improve CM

Ok, so I ordered the dipstick type opk's (20 of them) some preseed, the primrose and some hpt just in case. Hopefully I wont need to use any of it for to long in which case I will be more than happy to give it all away ...
when in your cycle do you use the opk's? And why is 2pm the best time for that? I'm on the road a lot and can just see myself asking my customers to use their loo all the time

most woman ovulate during day time hours so 2PM just seems to be in the middle of the IYKWIM
It depends if you know roughly when you ov or not...
Most woman who know use about 10 ish a cycle

Once I had figured out my cycles via charting temps I managed to get away with using about 2 per cycle... but it depends on how long your cycles are... I used to ov on CD12, so would test on CD11 and 12 and once I got the +ve, I'd stop and just go with temps to confirm. Occasionally my cycles would go up the wop and I'd ov earlier and miss it or ov late and go through more tests than expected.
According to most sites the best time to test is between 10am and 6pm, so 2pm is right in the middle of that.... also, try not to eat or drink in the 2 hours immediately prior to testing as it dilutes the hormone in your wees, possibly giving you a flase negative. I dont think it really matters what time exactly that you do test within that timeframe, just that you shouldnt go more than 24 hours without testing once you start using them (so if you do test at 2pm, and get a neg, its best to test by 2pm the next day as the surge only lasts app 24 hours) so once you pick a time to test, you need to stick as close to it as poss... I always went with 2pm as that was generally 2 hours after lunch (plus with working f/time, it made it easier to call that my 'afternoon tea' break time)
best of luck!

i found by testing twice a day after the POS that my surge lasted about 36-48 hours and that I OV on the second day of POS OPK's not the first.
Once you get a POS id do two a day until they fade off neg again then youll know how long your surge is, if this is your first time using them.
It will help you in the future

Shows how different they are person to person huh... I would get a +ve and then ov that night... and I used them for a year (had to go back and check all my old charts lol!)
Maybe test once a day til they get darker, then twice a day as nic suggested until they go negative again?
