Is there advice you gals can give me for my pending induction on friday? I've been told to be in for a long wait, which is fine. How did you who had this done pass the time? :) Do you think they'll let me take my laptop with me?

Depends on what they use to induce you with. Personally I was induced with syntocinon and found that pretty quickly I was having contractions that were pretty strong. I found that I couldnt concentrate on anything much, I couldnt watch tv and ended up trying to read gossip magazines but couldnt concentrate on them either. In the end, I just ate a big meal and went for short walks up and down the corridor with my IV drip. It didnt seem too long before things were well on the way.

The hospital will let you take your laptop with you but I am pretty sure that you wont end up using it at all.

Well i was there for 2 days before anything happened. They used the gel (did that about 3 times) then the morning briahna was born i went down had my waters broken and was put on syntocin which made things happen QUICK.

For the 2 days of waiiting i just read, slept, walked around. lol. Didnt do much and was pretty bored. Was glad to get down to the delivery room!

A friend of mine has been induced with syntocin twice. The first time she was all for having a birth without pain relief and went as long as she could without any but from what she told me with induced labour you don't get the slow build up as you do otherwise so it went from nothing to everything all at once. Second time around she got epidural straight away.

I've been induced twice. And both were quick. I think if I even owned a laptop (do now) back then, it wouldn't even cross my mind to take it. Too many other things to occupy your mind lol.

I agree with what mrsmojo - inductions do tend to not have the build up. Contraction can also be more painful. This was the case with me. I've also had a non induced labour so could compare.

Good luck....my suggestion is maybe a book or puzzle book :)

I was induced both times with the gel. Andrew's took a while to do anything (15 hours from when the first lot of gel was put in till contractions started), but Josh's was a lot more straight forward.

Have they said if your cervix is favourable?? If it is that is good, if it isn't I would try some EPO to help a bit.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

I was induced with my wee man and only had gel.
Gel was put in at 8.30am in the morning. Was monitored for an hour and was then told to go for a walk and be back at 11.30. Sat round reading a mag, doing crossword etc while DP watched a movie on the laptop. My waters were broken at about 12.30 and things moved quickly but as I had PE, I had an epidural quite early on and there was alot of waiting around as my BP had to go down etc. I just read in that time and DP watched more of his movie so I do suggest taking in stuff to do...I would have been going insane without it!

I haven't been induced myself, but i say , bring things with you , and if you don't end up looking at them , cool, no harm done, not a big deal in the scheme of things, least you know they are there if you want them

I'd think it'd depend on how ready your body is - I was induced a couple of days earlier than you are now (pre eclampsia) and was given 3 lots of the gel over 2 days, which set things off fine. The first day was boring, but when things started happening, they happened fast!

I had a synto induction with the gremlins and it was six hours from start of induction to both babies being delivered, but I was 4cm dilated when I arrived to be induced so pretty favourable. I did take some books to read just in case but didn't end up needing them as Willie and I just talked, then things got pretty intense, and I had an hour and a half of pushing.

My friend had a gel induction, had her first gel at 8am, second gel at about 6pm, her waters broke later in the evening and contractions started then they started synto and baby was finally born at 3pm on the second day. During the day we went walking around the hospital, watched TV in the family room and read magazines, during the night we tried to sleep in between exams and doctors visits.

I'd say take the laptop and some books or mags, if you don't get to use them you're no worse off.

My cervix was not favourable, but had the gel at 8am, by 9.15 I was having regular contractions. At about 1pm I had an epi because it was becoming quite strong and they wanted to put me on syntocin. Syntocin started at 2.20ish and Char was born at 5.25pm that night. It went REALLY fast! But on saying that, I have heard of others taking days.

Briahna was born in just over 2 and half hours! (contractions started at 10:30am, she was in the world at 1:16pm). It was the wait beforehand that was boring as seeing as the gel took so long to do anything!

I found magazines a saviour too. Crosswords!! lol!

Not long to go! Good luck for tomorrow!
