Did anyone here go back to work at 12 weeks or earlier?

How did you find it? Was baby in daycare or with a family member?

It doesnt look like I'll be able to stay away from work for any longer than that and I'm just hoping its not as unusual as it feels. Hating the thought of leaving my baby so soon but there is just no way around it.

i didnt but i'm sure there are people who have. are you taking into consideration your PPL and any other entitlements you may get?

Its a horrible thought itsnt it. I remember when my PPL ran out thinking "I am so not ready to go back" thankfully I wasnt going back but I feel for you if you have to...at 12 weeks you are only just starting to emerge from the newborn fog. Its too early. Wish we had longer PPL

I'm the main breadwinner and over the threshold for entitlements. We're going to have to take out a loan to supplement the PPL for those 12 weeks so we can still pay our bills - especially as it looks like we may be the proud new owners of a large mortgage (eek!!!).

We'd planned for me to take 4 - 6 months off using our savings but those are all now going into a deposit on a home.

The timing all sucks but we're trying to make the best of it!

i did but i took her to work with me...had my own office and moved to back of one wing of the offices....she had a portacot with a change table on it and I shut the door to BF.

We worked on hours that were outside normal (as I wasnt officially back off leave but helping them out in another office - not mine) and if bubs kicked up a stink I left for day and took work with me etc....they paid me for my work in a "bonus" type way at the end of my "official" PPL...so it didnt interfere with it.

a couple of times the secretaries grabbed her for a walk - found her downstairs at the cafe with them one day!!! no wonder she likes fluffies now! LOL!

went back to fulltime work (not the 2-3 days 3-5 hours as above) when she was 5.5 months old. and she has been in fulltime daycare since.

I enjoyed being back at work that early - but it def helped having her right with me...altho if we get pg again one of my offices is right by dc and has room again if I dont want to use DC and to have a bubs with me again for a while. Pretty lucky I guess that way!

That sounds ideal Bombshell!

I might find out how open the company is to me coming back for fewer days/hours to begin with. They wouldnt allow me to bring baby to work though which is a pity!

I haven't gone back to work at all yet but a friend of mine here had to go back when her mat leave was up (no choice, you don't get your job back otherwise). She said she cried on the bus on the way to work but that once she got into the swing of things it was surprisingly not too bad. She reckons leaving the house is the hard part.

Azza I was back at work at around about 14 weeks with both of mine although part-time mind you. First baby was looked after by my SIL and at the time I was very happy with the arrangement which made it so much easier. After having Tane I put both the kids in in-home care which I am even happier with. I don't feel guilty about leaving them knowing that they are having an awesome day and being well cared for. That sounds a great idea going in for fewer hours or days. I reduced my hours as well after having Tane to 20 hours and have just increased back to 25 in the last couple of weeks.

I have gone back part time when both kids were about 5-6 weeks old (only 10 hours) and then went 4 days just recently, when Ava was 5 months.

In regards to leaving them, Ava's been in DC since she was 5 weeks and TBH it's easier to leave her than it is to leave Jack. For her it's just 'normal' to be shipped off all the time.

Azza - you may have been reading about my woes in due in Aug thread! I went back very full-time after 6 months with DS, which I found emotionally very difficult.   Practically it wasn't that bad - fortunately I had my own office so could express while I continued working. DH stayed home till DS was 12 months, which was a great arrangement because it meant he bonded really well with DS, we could keep DS out of daycare for a while longer and DH could bring DS by the office for visits and a feed. DS went into fulltime care from 12 months and he loves it!

This time round, I'm getting a lot of pressure from my work to go back at 14 weeks and will be penalised financially pretty heavily if I don't. I have a lot of work friends who have gone back after their PPL and they have told me that it's hard thinking about and tiring to do, but not as bad as they had thought it would be. I'm trying to take longer this time though as this will probably be our last bubba and I just want to be a mummy for a while. It really sucks how we as women have to choose between career and family and it's even harder when finances get in the way.

I really hope you find a solution you are happy with. Bombshell's set-up sounds fantastic! If I could do that, I probably would go back at 14 weeks! GL

I went back to work when Cooper was 6 weeks old but in a very limited capacity, 4 hours a week. He went to my Mum's. I gradually increased hours to 2.5 days a week, and he has one day a week with a PORSE caregiver now, the rest of the time with his Grandma.

Queenbean, do you like the in home care system? I am only just 10 weeks but want to start looking at different care systems. I am quite interested in looking at the in home one, fortunately I will not be going back to work for 6-9 months so know I have plenty of time to decide but am interested in other peoples opinions.

I went to work part-time when the girls were about 14 weeks old..but was doing some pretty big hours because it was Christmas and it is at the Warehouse LOL I'm now permanenent there, and my permanent hours are only 11.5 per week, but I usually pick up an extra day or two. All care is shared between MIL, Mum and DH if it's the weekend. It works well most of the time!

My boss just called me in to ask if I'd given maternity leave any thought.

I said we wouldnt be able to afford for me to be off for longer than 12 weeks and asked if they would consider me coming back for a few hours in the morning (for meetings) and then doing documentation from home in the afternoons as a transition period from being on leave and coming back full time.

Sounds like its a definite possibility - I need to decide how long I would want to do that for and let them know and then they will come back to me on it - YAY!!!

im only having 3 weeks off using annual leave, then the 14 weeks PPL, as like you I am the income earner!!

I think my boss is thinking about me working from home, which would be super great, as I can do everything we normally do in the office from home. Fingers crossed!!

I only took the 14 weeks PPL as I was the main income earner. DH then left work to be a SAHD. I was looking forward to going back to work as had PND and needed to get out of the house but find it harder now to go to work everyday and leave her at home. We had hoped I would be able to have more time off but we realised very early on in the pregnancy that all I would be able to take was the 14 weeks

I'll have about 6 weeks annual leave, then the 14 weeks PPL, then maybe 1 more month (with no income!) so will probably be back after 6 months....
Not by choice, by financial constriants, I know it's reality, but it's really starting to get me down
