You would have to go up the mountain do go sledding. You would be better to go to Whakapapa as it is closer to you.

The trout farm on the Desert Road is good to go to and will kill some time. I think it is call the national Trout Hatchery.

Out of Taupo ther eis the Craters of the Moon and the Floodgate openings, the gates opening are a fun thing to watch, I still love seeing them open and all the water that comes out.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

If you are in Turangi rather than Taupo, then the Turtle pools are warm so take your togs or there is the hot pools out at Tokaanu. Was going to say the climbing wall but Finley is too young. The information centre has a cool topographical of the area.

There are plenty of walks along the river as well, plus good playgrounds dotted around.

LOL Bec, we did that last time we were up there. We still love watching the water too! Don't ask me to say it or spell it but it starts with A & is not far past the intersection to Rotorua/Hamilton/Taupo.

We're going down to Taupo next month. Does Cherry Island still exist?

We liked puzzle world for a coffee and play with the puzzles at the tables. Huka Falls are spectacular. Craters of the Moon is a pleasant walk around some geothermal activity. Taupo also has a good park and playground right in town pretty much right on the lake.

Oooo, Aratiatia Rapids are so much fun. I love them. Check the mighty river power website for the times they open.

Turangi has a new heated swimming complex which is meant to be really good, otherwise there are the outdoor pools at tokaanu (but they're thermal, so not so good for putting your head under).

Have heard great things about the trout hatchery and they often have special kids fishing days - i think the next one is the following weekend though.

Sledging would be best at Whakapapa, and it's close enough to Turangi.

The park in the centre of Taupo is quite cool, if your kids are the type that like ducks the boat harbour is a good place to feed them - and they have a cool little coffee cart for the adults. And there's the little train around the domain.

There are quite a few good walks - along the lakefront to five mile bay where there is a cool playground/huka falls/craters of the moon. There's a walk along the river at Turangi.

AC baths has a waterslide, so does debretts, both in Taupo.

PM me if there's anyhting else in particular you want to know

And nope, Cherry Island doesn't exist anymore. The Island is still there but the gates have been locked up for some time.

Tokaanu, has the private pool where you can't put your head under but the public pools you can, not too hot as well, cause you are preg, you won't be allowed to go into the private. They have a kids pool as well so you can jump in there with your wee man
