The bakery in Johnsonville. Can't remember what it's called - but on the main drag with buns etc. stuck all around the outside. They do cakes.

I think you will find you can no longer ask questions like this .. see the forum rule below
Absolutely NO solicitation, advertising, or promotion of your products or services, private sales or auction listings are permitted. This includes, but is not limited to, advertising or promoting someone else's business
So technically we cant promote anyone we think makes fantastic cakes .. sorry.

I'm not sure if the city cake company are in wellington but they do great cakes - they have done some for our birthday party articles in the magazine. They do cupcakes and stuff too.
The rest I know are Auckland based, but you could do a google search.
Making one is fun too :)
Do you know what you want the cake to be?
e.g. themed? big no.1 etc?
I think you can hire tins as well from some stores - i know in Auckland you can Hire them from Milly's kitchen? Not sure about Wellington though....what about strawberry fare?
As for the forum rules...
this is more a case of being a company that wants to advertise and promote their business and see's the opportunity to do so on our message boards instead of placing paid advertising on the site. We get a number of people that sign up to be a member to post one post or two about their business and then never come back to the site because they just wanted to promote themselves for their financial gain for free....it's that kind of abuse that isn't cool.
general chat and recommending places (like I have above :)) is totally fine :) thanks

Rosa in Khandallah - although they do more Adult type cakes like rich chocolate and umm gateaus etc, although I'm sure if you enquier they may do kids cakes or be able to point you in the direction of somewhere that does.
The bakery in Jville mentioned above is Nada, they're award winning and everything blah blah but yup they do kids cakes, not sure what kind but they do.
Wendys do ice cream cakes, never had one before but always wanted to try one!
Mr Buns up Cuba St next to Farmers do kids cakes and have a range of styles you can choose like trains, cars, trucks, etc.
Not sure of any others though, but have you tried the Yellow Pages?
Just had a quick flick through and found a place that does novelty cakes - Alissas Patisserie up Courtenay Pl

I ahve used The Windmill cake shoppe in Porirua and have found them really good. I think they have put their prices up since last year but the cakes are amazing...and I am sure they deliver too as they did for my wedding

Oh I forgot bout the Windmill - their cakes are yummy!!
I agree with Bizzy though, if you can find the time and get all the ingredients and an idea of what you want to do (visit places like TWH, Stevens, etc and get a cake tin in whatever shape) then make you own! So much fun!!

Thanks everyone
I had a look at nada today and for what i wanted she said over $300.. woah!! Don't think ill be doing that haha
Yeah i've seen at stevens the cake moulds, i could make one easy but its decorating it that i suck at! And by the time i brought all the fondant icing and decorations plus time etc etc it would probily equal out to same price of buying one! I found a website that has a cake i love the look of.. waiting to see how much that one is!!

how many people are you looking at - I had about a cake to serve about 30 or so people and it was $70 (that was this year) and it was a basic chocolate sponge with butter cream icing and jam in the middle with m and m's on the top with a Hannah Montana print on top.

$300 is wedding cake prices surely?
butter icing is good or you can buy those cake topping pics for way less than $300... making a cake certainly doesnt have to be expensive or time consuming.
