If you or your DH have (you can extend it to your parents and siblings if you want to be cautious) food allergies, eczema or asthma it is recommended that you avoid peanuts during pregnancy- including peanut butter, peanut sauces etc.
I have a child who has Peanut anaphylaxis (plus numerous other food and environmental allergies)- I did absolutely everything that I was supposed to when pregnant with her. My Mum has asthma and I get eczema so I avoided peanuts during my entire pregnancy with her, I also exclusivly breastfed for as long as I could which is supposed to help minimise the chance of food allergies and she still has hers.
In saying that, I am still not eating anything with peanuts in it for this pregnancy. It is absolutely terrifying living with a child with a deadly food allergy- you are in constant fear all the time and its not something I would ever wish for anyone and if not eating peanuts for a few months minimises the chances of this child not having to live with it then it seems like such a small sacrifice.
I was pregnant with DD in the UK, and over there they really go on about no peanuts during pregnancy. In fact, I found I got more s*** for eating peanuts than I did when I had a drink of wine.
I ate peanuts and peanut butter through out both preg's as there are no allergies in our families.
The best I could find out at the time was that they just don't know if you eating peanuts would affect bubs in your tum, so recommend you to stay clear
