Topic: Pram/Stroller help Posted: 30 September 2011 at 3:42pm |
My daughter will be one in November and we have the P&T's Explorer. I loved the pram initially but have come to hate it and am thinking of selling and buying something different.
I just am not sure what to buy yet so wanted to get some feedback.
The things I like about the Explorer are:
*easy to fold
*looks (I'm a bit vain and a snob lol)
*really liked the Peanut option, which we used till about 4 months
*the fact it reclines completely as we use it for sleeping in the evening when out and about
The thinks I dislike
*I find it quite tricky to adjust the recline when the child is in the pram
*the sunhood keeps coming off which is really starting to piss me off big time
*DH complaines that he keeps kicking the break bar when pushing the pram, he would like the handle bar to be further out
I am not sure how much longer and how often we will use a pram. We are planning on a age gap of about 3 years so would think a skateboard would be sufficient for the older child at that age. I am wondering if I should invest in a good quality stroller in the meantime instead?
The Quinny Buzz was on my list but I have since crossed it off as it doesn't recline at all and the Quinny Zapp which reclines needs the seat removed to be colapsed. I like the look of the Bugaboo Bee. I am prepared to spend a bit of $ on a pram/stroller but that one is a little too exxpensive for me.
So, what pram do you have, would you recommend it, what do you like and what do you hate about it?

I have a Valco runabout- its great, really sturdy and can go off-road no worries. it has a toddler seat that you put above the normal seat, though i think it will be a bit top-heavy with a heavy toddler and a baby in the pram too, so will probably get a skateboard for it when bubs is bigger and we have number 2. also, it is quite big- a bit wider than a P&T, which is good- roomy for bubs when she is bigger (i think the P&T looks really small for a bigger child..) but if you have a small car it will not fit in the boot! lol (yes, i found this out the hard way...) it reclines fully back but has a weird zip system to adjust how much it is reclining, which is a pain in the bum.. i do like it tho, front wheel snaps off easily to break it down (and THEN it will fit in my car boot! lol) and you can lock the front wheel or have it so it can steer. there are lots of things i think should be better on it, but im yet to find a pram that is perfect..so ill stick with it for now. ooh i LOVE the bugaboo Bee, but just dont justify the $$$- thats a bit TOO expensive for my liking!

I have a valco runabout, a quinny zapp and a p&t explorer.
The valco is awesome, except we will have a 17mth gap, and the toddler seat on the valco doesn't get covered by the sunshade - major issue in aucks over summer. REally love the valco, just wish they had a good inline double. Its actually smaller when folded than the explorer as it has a triple fold, and weighs the same (in fact I find at 34wks PG that the V is much easier to lift into the boot than the E). We used a bassinet in it to start with, and its easy to change the recline using zips. Great for running and off-road. You can get a skateboard for the back too.
The explorer in my opinion is a piece of cr*p - and we have only had it a week. Both DH & I kick the axel when we walk, its top heavy and unstable with 1 child in it, so imagine it will only get worse with the doubles kit on the front. Very hard to lift nose wheel, and next to useless off-road. I have fired off a complaint to P&T as its a huge disappointment. But I like its 'follow-the-sun' hood, and DD is very comfy in it. Wish I had bought a MB+1 instead.
The quinny zapp is fine, but in a different league - more of a shopping mall pram than anything you would use outside. Its sturdy for an umbrella stroller, folds up small, weighs nothing, and easy to use. We take it travelling & its so handy. But anything with plastic wheels is a bit hopeless for decent walking. I didn't realise that it could recline - you aren't getting the buzz & zapp around the wrong way?

We have a quinny buzz and it does recline, the seat goes pretty much flat and you can have it facing forwards or backwards.
Best baby purchase I ever bought!

I have a kingston something from babyfactory,
I like it we bought it new a yr or so ago and DD is 2 and I still use it regularly as she gets tired when walking and when she misbehaves I can wrangle her in it. The sunshade doesn't go all the way down but we bought a sunshade for it so she can get locked in. It doesn't do a doubles kit or anything like that but I would say a standard skateboard could be attached.
FH is over 6ft and can use it not a problem without kicking the footbrake, it is a one handfold which is handy and has a clip on the side that when its folded hooks it on so it doesn't open when you don't want it to. There is a tray with a cup holder for the child, and an attachment that goes on the handle and it has a storage compartment and 2cup holders. They are only the size of a takeaway coffee cup though so can't fit a 700ml water bottle in it which is a pain.
It reclines all the way (slight raise in it so not completely flat but close to). The only things that annoys me about it is that the basket is smaller then our previous one, and the way it reclines is abit of a pain as its a sliding clip thing and sometimes it can be hard to slide the thing down. Oh and when the seat is raised right up it doesn't fold down properly so you can't put the clip on to keep the buggy closed you have to lower the seat just abit. Only a problem if you have a child like mine who likes to sit right up, if they are happy to be a little bit reclined then you won't notice

I love our Mountain Buggy, I'd buy one again in a flash for just one baby. In saing that, it's a bit bulkier than the Phil and Teds, so if the compactness is something you like about that one, you might not like the MB so much.

We have a Baby City Jogger, which I just LOVE. You can collapse it with one hand and when flat it fits in behind our drivers seat. SO compact and light, and perfect for traveling with. I wouldn't be without it!

I have a phil and teds dash and also a quinny buzz
it depends what you want to use it for i do alot of outside walking etc and also malls etc and personally my dash is soooooo much better the buzz is useless outside i have to like piut it on its two back wheels to get it up driveways etc. Tho i love how daughter can face me. its about the same size as the dash when colasped. I heard great things about the phil and ted smart wish i had got that its heaps cheaper then the buzz too!

Thanks for tall the replies. I did get the Quinny's mixed up. I was meant the Quinny Zapp which can't be reclined so not suitable and the Quinny Zapp xtra which can be reclined but needs the seat removed to be collapsed.
From reviews and recommendations it seems MB are much more sturdy than P&T which surprises me, seeing they are made by the same people and cost about the same?
I have never heard anybody say their MB is flimsy or not sturdy enough or has problems!
I guess I will need to have a pram, especially seeing summer is around the corner (hopefully!) so we will be walking outside a bit more. But I am glad to see I'm not the only one who thinks 2 prams/strollers are a must...

sem - if you are planning another baby somewhere down the track, you should have a look at the new MB+1 - the first shipment sold out quickly but some stores might have a floor model. Its basically the urban jungle with a removable second seat - so an inline MB which can be a single or a double - future-proofing! Wish I had bought one instead of P&T but due with #2 before next shipment arrives so wasn't an option :-( Only problem I have with MBs is that they are HUGE folded down! But that is probably a small price to pay for such a great pram :-)

Seeing your likes and dislike about a stroller, Baby Jogger FIT might be worth to be considered. It has one quick folding system, smoothly reclined seat, extended canopy, comfortable legs room for the pusher, etc, For further details on its features, you might want to click on: http://jogging-stroller-reviews.net/baby-jogger-fit-reviews/
