Hey Girls!
I feel like im being taken for a bit of a ride - had some prof photos done of DD and have now been told the cost involved in buying some of the product. Im just looking for some comparisons to see if its ME being silly and out of touch with the cost of these things.
How much did you pay? What did you get?
Thanks in advance!

A professional photographer came to DD's daycare and it cost us $8 per 4x6 photo- and that was on special. Usually it was 10 or 12 each. I asked about digital copies of the photos (as I planned to scan them anyhow for far away family) and wasn't going to be able to get them for less than $75 per. So I didn't. If I recall the packages that photographer offered were in the $200 range, for a set of photos (not the complete shoot) in a few sizes (like 6 wallet, 8 4x6, 4 5x7 and 1 big one).
I think it's just kind of expensive.

Thats how they get you from what I read and experienced. I've been offered 2 lots of "free" shoots but they won't tell you the price. I did one set done then refused to buy any photos when I saw the price, especially since the quality wasn't as good as what dh and I can do. Second time we were offered one I tried to find out how much it would cost for the actual photos, took a lot pf persuading to find out the prices and it was going to cost way too much for something we can do much quite well ourselves.
Its not you being silly, some do charge riduclous amounts for the photos. They know they can charge a lot as people will pay it.

I had some done of dd as a newborn and also from teh same lady when i was preg $100 i think each sitting which included approx 15 photos on dis there was two of each basically had to use the logo ones on fbook, email etc and the other ones for printing :) we recently had some done from a very good photography which was $170ish for sitting then packages start from $500 25 photos on disc is just under $1000 and you can do what you like eg canvas etc. Otherwise you can mix and match opitions. Most friends of mine had spent $500 - $1500 on photo packages it depend son who takes them and what you want and what they offer. I would be asking if he als includes on the disc the photos without the logo on them? and if now ask exactly what use they are since they have the logo other then internet use and i would be questioning how he charges $500 for what he offers. I doesn't seem right most photos that offer photo prints also include framing/canvas etc.

It cost us $180 and we had about 40 photos put on CD. We were also given some prints
Man some of you are getting ripped off!!
Definitely worth finding out ALL the costs before you do it, huh!

I paid $100 for a 1hour shoot, 20 digital images & 1 8x10 print. She has since put her prices up and the same package is now $150.
However I got sucked in by one of those in the mall free shoot things. $1k later and I have 98photos on disc, 14 8x10, 8 6x8, 4 5x7 & 12 wallet size plus a canvas. So lost of stuff but quality of photos is average.
I never understand why they throw the bloomin photos away if you don't buy them! The thought of photos of my little guy being biffed in the bin made me sad & have to buy them. See, sucked in!!!! Needless to say, I sick with the photographer with the $150 package now.

We paid $200 for an hour shoot and 38 images on disc. In both colour and B&W at the end of last year.
We did a 'free' shoot with a well known photographer and I was honestly shocked atthe prices ( which they were not very forthcoming with) and the hard sell attitude.

We paid $169 for the sitting, and around $1000 for 1 canvas, 1 large framed pic, about 6 or 8 8x10's, 6 on a disc and a few wallet sized... it was going to cost us $995 to get 25 photos on a disc... next baby we'll be shopping around BIG time! We weren't told of print costs etc until after the shoot so we took the grandparents with us who were happy to pay for the pics they wanted too.

My sister is a professional photographer and I know she is always very up front with costs etc. There are some out there that arent' however.
A point I would like to make though is that portrait sittings may seem expensive but a good photographer takes great care and spends a long time ensuring you photos are an absolute masterpiece.
I guess what I am saying is that photographers are jsut trying to make a living too and if they are upfront and do a good quality job then it is not a rip off at all!

Yip, most of them are ridiculously expensive! I went to an AWESOME photographer up here in Auckland, took the most amazing shots. Only $20 for the sitting and one free photo, but every photo after that (6 x 8 I think) was $150. EACH. For one print!

I'm a believer in pay for what you get .. while the lady we just seen chargers alot the photos are amazing, she is award winning and a professional, she has excellent service and more then willing. Not saying you pay less you'rs aren't as good its kind of like the butcher vs supermarket for meat type thing IMO anyway.
The price of Pixie photos are a joke - I hate a friend pay like $500 for 7 on disc or soemthing stupid like that the did not look professinal weren't centred and they re use the exact same settings/ poses for everyone!

Hi
I went to a professional photographer and for the 5 photos I wanted he quoted me 2400...I KID YOU NOT! So I went to James Mackay photographers. James is my friends husband and they have just had a baby too so he is very good with baby shots. He was much more reasonable and came to my sisters house to take the photos and gave me them on disk so I could order what I wanted!!
I would recommend him.

those ones with the free sitting are a bit of a scam. i don't think people should pay because then you just encourage them to continue. Like others say a good photographer should be upfront about all costs. I'd rather pay more for the sitting and have a disc so i can do what i want with the images.
Walk away Isabella!

I can't believe the prices some of the photographers out there charge!!!
I have just paid $180 for a family session with a local photographer from our home-town. This includes a disk with ALL the photos and a framed photo.
I had looked around for a reasonably priced photographer in the city we live in but couldn't find one - most were very expensive, didn't give you a cd of your photos and charged per print. Outrageous!
It pays to ask around Plunket/on line groups for recommendations of good people to use :)

I think i paid $180 for the 1hr shoot, 1 free 5x7 and then every picture afterwards was $15 per 5x7, prices more the bigger the image. They are amazing full blown masterpieces though and worth every cent.
