Topic: no weight gain in last couple weeks Posted: 30 November 2009 at 8:58am |
hi guys, my weight gain was tracking along to some tables I got off the net. It has a minimum, average and maximum column giving you estimates of how much you can expect to healthily gain during pregnancy. I know that people are different etc but up to now I have been tracking along with their recommendations. I haven't purposefully watched what I eat, it just so happens that I gain at the same rates as what they recommend. Ok long story short. I haven't gained any weight in the last 2 or so weeks. I don't know if I should be worried about it. I have been eating and baby is still kicking me as always. Should I be worried about it or just accept that he is using up what I am putting in my mouth. Oh I am 27 weeks now and not skinny/overweight when I started. Any thoughts?

I've had weeks where I didn't gain anything and then would gain extra in the following weeks. I think as long as your baby is kicking still and you're feeling ok then that's perfectly fine. You probably don't really need to weigh yourself every week either but I'm the same and do it every week.

Ditch the charts and listen to what your body is telling you - which I think you are already picking up on when you say that baby is probably using up what you are putting in your mouth.
I didn't step on a scale for the majority of my pregnancy, so from about 12 weeks onwards I had no idea what I weighed.
Every woman is different, and so what they gain during any given pregnancy is going to be different - if we were all average life would be pretty boring, and besides, some of us have to fall outside of 'average' or there would be no average!

I didn't gain any weight at all until 33 weeks. Now I've started piling it on! Have gained a kilo a week for the past few weeks. Everyone's different so don't worry about charts. Your midwife will tell you if she's worried.

Try not to focus too much on weight gain, my midwife never weighed me because she said it wasn't an acurate indicator of how things were going. I lost 10kg in the first 16 weeks due to severe morning sickness and was really worried but everything turned out fine. As long as baby is kicking and your midwife isn't worried then I wouldn't be :)

My Mw never weighed me either.
I gained hardly any weight while pregnant both times, i was all baby and I had a 9lb 8oz boy and then a 8lb 3oz girl
Definitely dont worry about your weight, its no indicater at all as to how the baby is doing.

I was being weighed at my OB appointments and I started off 2kg heavier then I was at 27+weeks - and that's even with a 2lb 8oz baby, plus placenta, fluid etc on board!
I too was worried but no one else was!
I wouldn't worry unless your midwife or OB is

I havent gained any weight in the last 4 weeks either and im 37 weeks and its now the baby should be gaining the most weight. Im not worried cos the OB that checked i was ok for csection at 39 weeks said i was measuring bang on dates
As long as your MW is happy with growth i wouldnt be worried. My MW hasnt been weighing me, ive been weighing myself and have had a steady weight gain until now.

I am 28 weeks and have lost 2.3 kgs in the last couple of weeks and I have by no means been starving myself. Although I have plenty of reserves for the baby to feast off me for weeks
Like others have said, stop worrying about the weight gain or lack of it, if you baby is still active and you are eating then dont let the numbers on the scale scare you.

Everyones different I guess, I wouldnt worry as long as you are being healthy. I didnt put on any weight from 24 weeks through until this week (32) and I have just noticed I have put on a kg this week...but bubs has been growing the whole time, as in my measurements have been consistent.

went to se the ob again today for the routine check and bub is growing well. he is measuring as he should so me not gaining much weight in the last couple of weeks doesn't seem to be an issue.
thanks guys

I am 37+ weeks and have been losing weight the last 2 months but have been eating healthy and being very active. Bubs is right on track thou and is measuring 9.8 pounds for birth. Have put on just under 10kg the whole pregnancy. I know its natural in your last trimester to lost weight... Just speak to your midwife if you think its too much hun (-:

I lost about 5kg in the beginning because I couldnt keep much down due to MS. Now Ive put that back on plus another 3 kg. I havent put anything on in the last 3 weeks and my midwife isnt at all concerned. I just try to eat healthy, drinks heaps of water and eat when I am hungry.

I've put on 2 kgs so far and that is worrying me. I put on 20kgs with Ryan, but then I was sooo teeny to begin with. Baby is growing fine and I wish I could say it doesn't wriggle and kick and punch so much. but I know it's just fine. I eat LOADS aswell. So i dunno whats happening. I've kind of decided its one great big BOY.
