multiple pregnancy

Hi

I would see if you can transfer to a hospital midwife.
On saying that if you post the question above into the 'Twins, triplets or more' topic under First baby or more, i am certain Emma or Emily or even Yvette can answer this as we all live in auckland and have twins.

Sorry I can't help myself as was under the high risk team at National Womens with my twins. But def agree you need someone who has experience in twins!! Specially if it's your first pregnancy

Sorry, we had a specialist right from the beginning. When it came to the delivery, we did have a hospital midwife who specialised in twin delivery but that was about it as far as a midwife specialising in twins. Also agree with Bext1 about contacting hospital midwives

I also question you being told you were "miscarrying" as at 24 weeks (which you would have been at the time) then your babies are "viable" and they should have been monitoring you closely at the time.

I just had a think about it .. you were told you were miscarrying? I just caught up with our friends from ante natal who had there twins at 26 weeks!! Both boys are doing great. (They were one pound when born and just massive now)

thanx everyone for the comments. im having identical twins and im 26 weeks, and the babies kick all the time so thats a good sign. i've been reading a book about multiple pregnancys and it was really good, my antenatel teacher gave it to me to read bcause she new that my midwife didnt know much information about twin pregnancys and wasnt experinced with multiples. now that i have finished the book i know so much more about warning signs for expectant mother of multiples and how much food i shld be eating ect. i feel like i know what to do even if my midwife doesnt know. i know that seeking an experinced midwife is the right thing for me and the babies and so happy that my antenatal teacher was so helpfull about me needed to find an experinced midwife.

at the time they said i could miscarry they told me i had to talk with my midwife about having a scan. she felt like i didnt need to have a scan and that there wasnt anything more she could do for me:( that was two weeks ago. on monday just gone i asked my midwife to refer me to the high risk unit at auckland hospital but she told me that she cant refer me to auckland but she can refer me to north shore bcause auckland wasnt under waitemata. i got realy unset bcause its about what is best for me and my twins not what district auckland hospital was under. she got really mad because i ask to be refered to some else that was experinced with multiples. she said that i would have to look for someone myself if i wanted to go to auckland hospital cause it was in a different district. so i was forced to seek for a new midwife and call a hole bunch of different people just to get a number to someone that was experince with multiples. in the end i left a message for a lady at green lane hospital and told her my story and she was more that willing to help. she got back to me the next day and said that she was able to care for me and will make sure i get the best care for me and my twins:D i was so happy that i chose to go somewhere else bcause my previous midwife told me that twin pregnancys were just like singleton pregnancys just with two. and we all know there nothing easy about multiple pregnancys.

Wow, I'm glad you got a new midwife sorted, especially with the comment about twin pregnancies being like singleton pregnancies except with two.... Identical twins are far higher risk than singletons because they share a placenta. They're a real blessing though Good luck!!
