Hi

Does anyone else suffer from asthma? Any advise for management during pregnancy?

My GP is great and has explained that the risk is so much greater to me and baby if I stop taking (or decraese) my inhalers, but cant help worrying about the risk!

I have done lots of research (and spoken to my GP) and 2 out of 3 of my inhalers are classed as catergory B in the risk scale - which basically means that they havent really been tested on humans, but dont show any problems in animals.

My asthma has been completely under control for the last year (if not longer) and I very very rarely have to take my inhaler due to shortness of breath, but have noticed the last few nights that I have been needing to take it. Has anyone else experienced changes in their asthma early on in their pregnancy?

Sam

I only have mild asthma but I have sort of used my inhaler a bit more. Not so much now, but for a while there i was using my inhaler every night. Which is more than usual.

Which sucked cause every time i used it it nearly made me throw up lol.

Its never really been that bad so i havnt really thought to ask my MW or GP anything about it.

when i was pregnant with both my boys my asthma seemed to virtually disappear! lucky me I know.

My MW explained to me that if my asthma did get bad, the lack of oxygen would be a LOT worse than any effect from the drugs. I did continue to take my preventer in the last trimester anbd it didn't effect the boys at all.

I have asthma too and was fine until 3rd trimester when it feels like bubs is playing footy with your insides. I also found that BFing made me wheezy ( I'm such a freak LOL)

Like Lizzle said the risks of lowering your oxygen rate are a lot higher than the use of your inhaler.

Always best to check with the GP & MW though as everyone is different
