Topic: Overdue stats Posted: 05 May 2009 at 3:44pm |
just curious because i keep finding conflicting info but does anyone know the stats on how late first babies normally are? i read 8 days somewhere but then found 4. im totally not worried bout bubs going late. i only stopped going to uni as of yesterday, i feel totally fine and im not really uncomfortable and figure baby will come when he is ready but would be curious to know. because i was on fertility treatement and getting regular scans and blood tests so my dates are definitly right so its more a curiosity thing.

yea no stress, im not looking at it for an answer, just curiosity. they take stats on pretty much everything, % of c sections, # of home births, etc... i know there are stats on who delivers how many days over etc..based on the average of all the women who have given birth over certain periods of time too but i cant seem to find the data for it. all good.

My midwife said that first time babies are usually about a week or so over due, but you really just dont know....everyone is different. Caden was 12 days over due when I went into labour, but I was pretty much 2 weeks to the day once he was acually born.

it is so different with everyone but i have heard the majority of first babies do go overdue, i was expecting to go 2 weeks over and even had the 2 weeks past due date in my head for birthdate lol it was a surprise when i went into labour 3 days early, was so not expecting it and had no indication it was gona happen i thought he was pretty comfy in there lol. good luck for your impending arrival

We were told in our Hynobirthing class that first babies are 10 days overdue on average. Not sure whether that was a Singapore stat, an American one from a book or global, but that's what she said.
Actually it's probably not a Singapore stat given the number of scheduled c-sections here (to ensure babies are born on auspicious dates).

Induced day 12, born day 15. Only 4% are born on their "due day". My family is prone to overdue babies and bad labours for their first but it tends to get better the more they have.
