Topic: What can I take for a cold? Posted: 03 July 2009 at 9:29am |
I woke up wit it yesterday but this morning I can't breathe out my nose, I have a sore throat, swollen glands, and I just feel like crap. Not to mention the nausea on top of that. Lemon and honey drinks are not helping. although they do taste good.
What else is ok while pregnant?? know panadol is........What else??

I bought some of the Otrivin Saline Nasal Spray which seemed to clear my nose after a few sprays. I also use Comvita throat lozenges (lemon & honey).
But it sounds as if panadol might be your best bet since you have the sore glands etc.
It sucks to be sick when you're pregnant & can't take the "good drugs"

I took lemsip when I had a cold a few months back, the packet says its safe for pregnancy so that was good enough for me as I felt like utter crap!
I put some manuka honey in with it and I felt so much better afterwards.

I was told no to lemsip. But natural lemon drinks, grate a bit of fresh ginger into it. Panadol, lemon and honey strespils. If you have a cough then there is Duro tuss regular. Keep drinking hot water, you could do a warm water and salt gargle, ohhh and stay in bed and watch tv!! I have numerous colds during my pregnancy due to working with under 5's and they are hard to control just make sure your temp doesn't get high!!

Bahaha not so easy to stay in bed watching tv with Ryan running around aye Sarah?!!
Try a hot mustard footbath right before bed, then olbas oil or vicks on your feet and chest, wooly pair of socks and a hottie (not hubby the other hottie ).
You could try a torpedo drink which will def have you feeling better but I don't know how it'd sit with your morning sickness. Heres the recipe - half teaspoon cinnamon, half tsp ginger, half tsp cloves (if you have them), tiny pinch of cayenne pepper, big spoon of honey and hot water. Take it right before bed (while having the footbath) and you'll wake up feeling better. You could also try simmering a sliced up onion in milk til its soft then eat the onion (which doesn't actually taste like onion by this stage - its quite nice) and drink the milk.
Sending you lots of healthy germs

Oh babe your so lovely. A mustard foot bath...really???? And ew on the onion in milk, that's weird. Hmm I'll try the torpedo thing LOL, DH has a cold too so maybe I'll give it to him first.
There is deffinately no lying in bed with Ryan running about and I can hardly watch TV when a little nearly 1 year old thinks it's super cool to switch it on and off and on and off.
Thankyou ladies. I was a bit worried about strepsils as it has menthol in it. Dh just said take one. When I was preggie with Ryan I struggeled taking panadol, bbut he sems ok now so they weren't too bad.

Vicks!! I had a cold a couple of weeks ago and rubbed heaps of vicks on the soles of my feet and all over my chest before bed and on a tissue I carried around with me to sniff from time to time. It seemed to help, my cold cleared up heaps quicker than I thought it would.

LOL sounds awful aye but they do work!!! AND they're natural and cheap! Def give DH a torpedo drink tonight. Tell him to block his nose if he doesn't like the taste let me know how he feels in the morning?!
As for the mustard foot bath - did you never get them as a kid?? It was a major sick treat for us lol sitting in front the fire getting babied! Just get a bucket or whatever and fill it as hot as you can bear and chuck in a tablespoon of mustard powder. Keep your feet in it for half an hour and keep it topped up with hot water then do the wooly socks thing. It really works as weird as it all is
