Topic: For those with a shorter period ... Posted: 09 September 2009 at 6:47pm |
I had my first scan today, pretty exciting!!
I'm only 8 weeks but couldn't stop thinking that I'd rather know now if there was no heart beat, so decided to have an early scan to check.
Sure enough, there's a heart beat and little stumpy arms and legs, amazing!!
Anyway, got a bit of a surprise when I was told I'm actually 9 weeks, not 8. Apparently if you have a shorter menstrual cycle, you'll be a bit further along - mine is only 23 days long.
Interesting ...

I use to have normal cycles but after I had a mc they returned a couple of days shorter and I got moved 4 days ahead. It was a nice surprise.

Its to do with when you ovulate. Predictions based on your LMP assume you ovulate 14 days later, which is the norm for a 28 day cycle. If you ovulate at a different day in your cycle then the LMP prediction is wrong. Sadly if you have a long cycle, you tend to be put back a few days too!
