We are keeping baby in a bassinet when he is born and so far I'm not really worrying about buying a cot.

How long do they normally spend in a bassinet?

I'd just like to figure out when were going to have to look at cots.

Thanks!

We actually only had our son in his for about 8 weeks then switched him into the cot, he possibly could have stayed in for longer but I felt he was getting too big for it. We bought the cot before Ryan was born. It wouldn't hurt to start looking around now.

My first was in the bassinet until she was 3 1/2 months old.

My son was in it for three weeks but he wriggled so much he would fall down the side of the mattress so I put him in his cot.

It all depends on the size of bubs and how much they move really. Some people dont even have a basinet, prefering to put baby straight into a cot.

We had a big cane bassinet we used for about 6 mths, so it depends on size of baby & how mobile they are.

We've had two different bassinets and both times baby has out grown around 3.5-4 months. Our second bassinet was bigger, but then we also had a bigger second baby

all my kids were in it no longer than 4mths and they were sleeping in the cot during the day from birth made night time transition to cot much simpler.
this time we have a hammock and a bassinet and since ds3 wont quite be out of his cot when this one arrives i am hoping this wee man stays in his hammock or bassinet long enough to get ds3 out of the cot. really dont want to buy another cot

Rowan was in hers 6 weeks but it was a small one and it wasn't particularly comfy so we thought it best to move her to the cot.

But bigger ones can go up to 6 months or whenever they start sitting.

Thanks for all of your replies

It's a pretty big bassinet (the one we have) so I think he could be in there for a few months or so, he might be a big baby though so I think I'll def start keeping an eye out for a cot now - no rush, so hopefully I'll get a bargain!!

We had a caribou 'hanging' bassinet and Lily was in it for 2 mths. She was quite long and we moved her out because she would run her fingers down the sides of it and it made such a freaky noise!
