Topic: Pains in lower left side... Posted: 11 December 2006 at 12:50pm |
I'm having these weird on and off stretching pains (sometimes really bad) in my lower left side. Only hurts when I lie or sit or stand a certain way. Doesn't feel like cramps though. Feels like it's pulled and stretched..
I've been having them for a couple of days now on and off and they are sort of in the middle of my side, like towards my tummy, but not in or near my bump.
My next midwife appt is next wednesday!
Anybody know what it might be?

Hi,
I have had similar thing happen to me more when im lieing down and think its just the skin streching as baby is not in the best position when im lieing down or sitting or somtimes just walking or somthing it has really helped to put some polliws under my tummy when lieing down, My mid wife siad its just as my soft tissue is relaxing the mucles are not what they used to be so just take things slower and be ware of getting up to quick etc, (im now 30 weeks and cant just sit up in bed or jump out of a seat its all getting much more strategic and slow easy motions)
Hope this helps otherwise if your not sure and think it might be harmful to you your mid wife is paid to care for you ring her and ask early before the appointment to be rest assured

Thanks for that.
I have a really bad habit of getting up too quickly and then regretting it immediately afterwards.
Now that I think about it, I really bent the wrong way a few days ago and thought 'OW, I just ripped something', and now it's been on and off since then.
It's gone away again, but if it gets any worse I'll definitely ring my midwife, and I'll mention it to her next week. It's not nice to have pain but I'm glad it's just in my side and not in the middle, cause I'd be STRAIGHT on the phone to her if it was.
Thank you again!

It sounds like stretching to me, it will probably be uncomfy but not necessarily painful (until you're at my stage ) ... as with anything, if you're concerned it never hurts to give the mw a call. It's her job.

I got them too. Especially if I was sitting down and then got up (i work in a bank so on and off the chair alot when pregnant) It is perfectly normal but if you are worried and not too sure i would mention it to your midwife next time you see her.

Inflamed ligament ! Well, maybe. I had it on my right side when I was pregnant and ended up having a week off work because it was the ligament that supports the whole uterus that I'd manage to inflame... not fun.

When I was preggers I once got up out of bed too quickly - moved suddenly and pulled a muscle or ligament (crikey did it hurt!), and it hurt for a good week or so after that every time I went from lying to sitting or sitting to standing. Wasn't a problem for baby at all, just annoying for me. If you're worried though, ringing the midwife could be worth it

Yep, as everyone has said, it's your ligaments stretching. I had this too - esp after lying on my back briefly (in later pregnancy) or on either side. I literally was standing bent over at the chiropractors one day because of it and he told me it's the ligaments supporting your pelvis etc that are getting all stretched and they can hurt.
