Best is to start reading up on ERO reports of the schools and see if they are in a zone and then look at houses in that area.

Cant really help much with pukekohe but we are in Waiuku (so 20 min away) and love it this side.

for schools you want to aim for
Hill, Buckland, Valley, pukekohe east.

from what iv heard Hill has best feedback.

avoid the north side of puke a friend of mine made that mistake and is now stuck there coz stupid agent didnt tell her the truth about that area. if you want more detail of the areas to avoid pm me and i will tell you exactly.

Bucklands is a nice affordable area with a good school. its out of busy traffic but still close to town not even 5mins from puke main town.

Rory - 15.7.06
Mason - 13.06.08

Sorry not meaning to thread jack but I am very interested in this thread too as looking to go rural south akl maybe next year. Suggestions on areas for lifestyle blocks etc up to 2 hectares. Any suggestions much appreciated. Looking for primary thru to high school although high school isn't too much of a priority as she can go boarding where she is at the moment.

I have friends who live in Buckland and both love the area. There can be a bit of a struggle at times with the whole 'small town' attitude, but overall they both love it there. Buckland School is meant to be pretty good aswell.

lifestyle blocks i would recommend buckland, or if you are happy to be further from pukekohe then try bombay or waiuku.

We moved to Pukekohe North from Papakura 12 months ago, which by comparison isn't THAT bad (keeping in mind that both DH & I grew up in Manurewa and Papakura, and are used to areas like this).

There is a big difference between Puke North and other areas of Puke (both in house price and quality of the area).

I haven't looked into all that much as I don't have kids yet, but everybody I know rates Hill School, and mum had a job interview at St Josephs, and she rates there too.

If it was me, I'd check out the schools and compare with current house listings, and pick an area that's going to work for both.
