Topic: Fundal height measurements Posted: 11 December 2006 at 11:33am |
I'm wondering if anyone has, or has a link to, something which shows the comparison of a mw's tape measure - centremetres compared to "weeks"?

Don;t know if it helps but it is on the back of the tape measure. I have in my notes from my last appointment measuring 30 weeks and the cm measurement is 27.5cm. Which is bang on for my dates, that does surprise me a bit.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

The cms usually correspond to the amount of weeks you are.
So as Vix said... 30cms at 30.3 weeks is spot on.
I was measuring small for dates based on fundal height and midwife got a bit worried so she sent me in for a scan. Hannah was freaking huge!!! I don't know where the heck in hell she was hiding because I'm a bit on the small side... but a 9lb 6oz baby measuring small enough to warrant a growth scan?! Weird.
Anyway, so while I say the measurments correspond to weeks - take that with a grain of salt.

Yea Nikki I had similar thing with Briona. Sent off for a growth scan in the last month and then she was born full-term at 8lb 4oz LOL. But there are two measurements. One is cm's and the other is slightly more generous. So at 33 weeks I was measuring 32.5 weeks but 29cm. Today I have measured 37weeks but that's only 33cm.
I had a different mw for the other two kids and she only measured cm's. I was trying to do a comparison chart for myself but am a bit stuck on converting the few weeks ahead of me... like how many cm = 38 weeks on the measure?
Becks I might just have to "borrow" my mw's measure next time I couldn't find anything on the net! Oh and I measured the same as you now, at my 29w2d appointment.

Oh I get ya... yeah I had two midwives who measured different... I thought they just started from a different measuring point rather than using different units...?

I think in the NZ pregnancy book there is a chart thing there too. but as others have said dont rely on it. I was measuring right on for my dates but Kobe was 6 weeks early and the size of a full term baby!

I think most mw's take it with a pinch of salt, it's more for checking that bubbas are actually growing from week to week without having to pay for so many scans.
I feel like I'm carrying so much bigger this time - certainly I'm in a new size of clothes - but my fundal height seems to be much the same as with the other two - in fact closer to Hannah's who was 7lb 3oz than Briona's who was 8lb 4oz. For some reason Hannah's measurements were bigger and that's with the same mw!

My midwife kept telling me I was probably having a big baby as she felt that I was 'big', however when I had checkups at the hospital, they weren't concerned and my extra scans showed a 'normal' size baby. Amelia was 8lb 4oz, born right smack on her due date.
