Topic: External cephalic version Posted: 21 September 2006 at 10:52am |
Hi all
Im 34 weeks and Ive just come back from my MW and she thinks baby boy is still head up ... Im not panicing just yet (this is my 3rd child and apparently they can muck around abit) but she mentioned what may happen and that an external cephalic version may be part of it ... has anyone had this done or know anything about it? Risks involved etc?
Also .. any tricks that may encourage him to turn .. like ... tickling his feet?

Isn't that when they try to turn the baby from the outside.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

A lady I knew had accupuncture to turn her baby, and worked almost instantly.

I had a successful ECV done. It was incredibly uncomfortable - mainly because they sort of push your skin along with the baby & use quite a bit of pressure. They kept doing scans throughout to check on things & then you & baby are monitored for about an hour afterwards to make sure baby isn't stressed at all. They did a scan beforehand too to check how baby is lying & that the cord isn't wrapped around the neck etc. Also they give you some tablets to take in the couple of hours beforehand to relax your uterus. Before I had it done, my midwife suggested lying basically on your hands & knees with your bum up in the air so that gravity might help baby turn, pulsatilla - a homeopathic remedy, & acupuncture. I tried all of those, but none of them worked hence the ECV.

My daughter was breached at 34 weeks but by 36 weeks she had gone into the engaged position so wouldn't panic too much. I hear sitting on the chair backto front and leaning forward is good.. don't people use one of those ball things (the big round ones they use for exercise) cause that can help too?

I went to the chiropractor and she told me that you rub your belly in a clockwise direction firmly not to firm just use a little pressure so they get the idea. Its nowhere near as intense as external cephalic version.
Start with either hand on each side of your tum and just go clockwise, do as often as you wish. Took a day after having chiro and doing this and she was turned

by baby was transverse so i had two ECV's, the first time he turned back...because he was my second child they didnt need to give me anything to relax my uterus, but because i have negative blood i had to have the anti d...
on your hands and knees rocking back and forth is supposed to help, maybe you could wash the floor -NOT.

My bubs was head up at my 31 week MW appointment, she suggested being on your knees with head on the ground (DH was somewhat amused when he watched me do this), plus cutting sugar out of my diet, and cutting back on walking (I don't have a car so walk everywhere) and if I had to walk somewhere too slow the pace down. At my 33 week appointment bubs had turned.

jack was still breech at 38wks so i had an ECV but unfortunately it didn't work. they think i had a short umbilical cord
he was born at 39wks by elective c-section.
i didn't get the 'uterus relaxing' pills either but they did monitor jack and did a few scans and we had to stay put afterwards for about 30mins, i think, to keep an eye on him.
