Topic: WFF - Dumb Question? Posted: 25 June 2009 at 9:42am |
I am completely confused by working for families so need so help from the intelligent people out there!
My son was born Nov 2007 so signed up with WFF then to get fortnightly payments. Stopped that after about 6 months as it all got messy etc so decided to flag it. I have never received a letter or anything since the one I got about cancelling it.
Obviously it works on years end so the first year ended March 2008. I went back to work in Feb 2009 and the year ended in March 2009?
So what do I do now? I am guessing I should still be entitled to some money from WFF as we were under the threshold etc. Do I get in touch with them? Do they just contact me as was already signed up with them etc? DO I need to put in a tax return for the year ended 2009 before they do WFF?
Any help would be appreciated as am all confused!

If you got on to the IRD website you can register to log in & manage your own accounts. In there will show you what you will be recieving.
I'm presuming that when you canceled it, you put it to lump sum? I don't think they are due until July?
Your tax returns are done automatically as well. If you are not sure give them a call on their 0800 number.

If you have to file a tax return (which you do if self employed, or have a rental you claim for etc) then you won't get anything until that has been processed.
If you are just PAYE then you will get the lump sum payout in July.
Wouldn't hurt to phone them just to check where you stand with it all.
I set ours to lump sum and then found out we won't get the parental tax credit for Kyle until we do our tax return which our account usually takes till October to do, so Kyle will probably be 1 before we actually get the money. Wish they had warned me about that when I phoned them as we would have had it paid out weekly if they had told me and we would have had the money by now

I would assume that as you cancelled it previously you will need to re-register if you want to start receiving it again.
I asked for a lump sum for last year as I think we may have ended up over the threshold as I was working casually, I should find out next month. For this year we are getting fortnightly payments and I have over estimated our annual income by $2k just to make sure we don't ended up getting too much and having to pay at the end of the year.

call them on 0800 227 771 - you can accept the PTS over the phone for both year ended 2008 and 2009 and will receive your payout in about 5 working days (thanks KA for that number!). Saves having to wait. Although apparently my PTS was mailed a couple of days ago anyway, so I think it's about 3-4 weeks once you get that until you get the money.

Thanks guys, I didn't cancel it as such, just stopped the fortnightly payments.
I overestimated my income by $10,000 but they kept sending me letters all the time saying that DH's pay was increased - it wasn't as he is a teacher and we very rarely get increases, and if we do its $3000 not the $15,000 they kept saying!
I have signed up with one of the taxrefunds companies so I will just wait until they start processing in about 4 weeks and do it thru them.
