Topic: Trying for a promotion & baby? Posted: 24 May 2006 at 6:55am |
Hi, I'm new here, and need some advice! Several months ago I was identified by my boss as a possible sucessor for her when she leaves the company in November. since then there have been a couple of other people who have said they are also interested in her role. My husband and I want to try for our first baby, and although I really want the job I also don't want to wait another year to start trying. Do you think it is ok for me to persue this promotion even though I want to start trying for baby shortly after I get it (if I get it), and would take at least 6 mths off work when it's born? I'm worried if I speak to anyone here about it I'll not be considered for the promotion.

i think it's okay, but I wouldn't mention that you are trying to anyone. Although they can't legally turn you down for promotion because of pregnancy, they will, and then just say it was something else.

I'd pursue the promotion alswell as starting to try to conceive as you don't know how long it will take you to get pregnant. I wouldn't tell anyone at work that you are trying either.

Yep, definately go for the job, I reckon it's good to carry on life as normal as otherwise trying for a baby can become an obsession - like it has for me!

Yap I agree too. Go for the job and keep TTC. I mean who know how long it will take for you to fall pregnant? and pregnancy is 40 weeks...so even you fall pregnant soon you will still be ok.
I also agree ..dont tell any one that you are TTC because tho they are not allowed to not give you the job because of this...they wont and give you other excuses. Get the job and then tell them ...he he ha ha

Hi
I agree with everyone else. Also, when you do fall pregnant, just tell them it was unplanned, that way they wont thinked you deceived them.

I agree with everyone and its not like you would have the baby and then leave, you are planning on going back. Good luck with both
