Topic: Spotty Rash Posted: 07 November 2009 at 2:27pm |
Hi,
Last night put DS to bed at 7, he woke at 8 and threw up violently 3 or 4 times, passed out about 9.30 and that was it for the night.
Today all over his back front, bum and a bit on his legs he has a really tiny faintish purpley spots, more over his bum and back than anywhere else.
He is a bit off today, but not terrible, just tired and grizzly which is fair enough really considering the volume of vomit.
Is the rash to do with being sick, or do you think the rash and vomit are to do with something else?
I would take him to the Dr but its the weekend and i'm sure there is probably nothing I can do anyway and I don't think he's bad enough to go to after hours

Take him to the hospital now if when you press a glass to the spot it doesn't fade.

**Lurker**
Not to scare you but meningitis can start with a rash and throwing up. I don't have a child yet but if it was me i wouldn't hesitate to get help, especially with it sounding like a purple rash....
My motto is always do what i have to now, and if i need to, i can laugh it off later on...

hmmm i googled meningitus and I don't think its that, the rash is really faint, and small and light purple, it also goes under a glass so thats ok.
We are monitoring closely though if he goes down hill we'll be going ill.

ring health line and ask for advice. They are really helpful 0800 611 116
if they are unsure they may send an ambulance to take you and baby to the hospital or advuse you to go yourself. that's what happened with my DS1 he had a rash all over his body, it turned out not to be meningitis but they always check.
good luck

I would definitely ring healthline if not that then going straight to A/H, throwing up violently and then getting a purple rash doesnt sound good, its better to be safe than sorry hun.

Ok. we've been to see someone and its all ok.
I feel a little stupid really that I just thought nothing of it, I just thought it was a rash, for some reason it just didn't seem much, can't believe I was taking it so lightly, not like me at all. we could get a frequent flyer card at a&e so thanks ladies.
So the healthline said take him in and the nurse was the nicest nurse ever, soon as we stripped him off she went oh yes its viral, apparently this sort of rash can come up at the end of an illness just the bodies way of dealing with a bug, but she agreed with all of you, its always worth checking.
So little man was poked and prodded and checked all over and all is ok.
She also said the glass test was good but not always accurate so best to check, I have learnt a lesson about rashes today. always treat them seriously.
Thanks again everyone.

Good to hear its just a viral. We had a viral rash but no other symptoms a few weeks back and i ummed and ahhed for ages weither to take him in. I ended up going because its just not worth the risk if it was something nasty just starting up.
