Topic: What to wear at Birthcare? Posted: 16 June 2007 at 5:35pm |
I wasn't sure where to put this topic, but I'll stick it here for the time being and the mods can move it if they see fit
Anyway, I keep getting conflicting advice about what to wear during the hospital stay after bubs arrives (we're going to Birthcare if it makes any difference, but I suspect it'd be the same anywhere).
So far I've been told everything from satin PJs to a front-buttoning granny nightie to trackies and a t-shirt. I can't afford to go out and buy all of these (normal sleepwear for me is a singlet and yoga pants), so I thought I'd ask here and see what the mums have found the most comfy/practical solution.

I was in hospital not birthcare so i wore their nighties the entire time...had taken stuff with me but due to more blood than i ever imagined (TMI I know) I decided to ruin their stuff. I also took jandels - to wear in shower, undies (yep some i chucked away!), and used their pads and their nappies. I think i only wore two maternity bras while there but only cause my milk hadnt come in properly.

Go with what you feel comfy in...If it is singlets and yoga pants, go with that. Make sure you have undies that the pads can go into (Some that if the get ruined you dont care...i normally wear G's so got some granny undies specially) You will be having visitors, so mascara and a nice lip gloss will help you feel fab! I went to Birthcare and trust me....anything goes.....!!! there was some ladies in jeans and dressed up, others just in their pj's all day...
I just had my preg shorts and t-shirts.. didnt get anything (apart from the undies) just for birthcare.

With both kids I made an effort in the morning and changed into trackies and a t-shirt, then put pj's on for sleeping. Take and wear what makes you feel comfy.

I wore the hospital nighties mainly becuase I stupidly bought the pj's too small.
I'd wear whatever you think you will feel comfortable in.

I have bought 2 pairs of pjs as I had none. i am packing my maternity jeans and a couple of pairs of trackies.
The Pjs are button front and i made sure i got them really big, in case I end up with a c section, I want to be able to wear them high. Same with the granny undies. farmers more label sells packs of cotton undies for about $12 for a pack of 5 - just don't get the low bikini ones!
Bear in mind that you will be sharing a room (unless you pay for private). That may mean that if you have more than one or two guests turn up you will go to the tv lounge to chat with them - that is really exposed so you will want to feel 'human' in what you are wearing. Also if you end up pacing the corridors at night with a crying unsettled bubs you will want to be covered up.

I wore maternity clothes during the day (really comfy, and you feel so slim in them without the belly!) and my usual PJs at night, although I did buy a maternity singlet top from Famers, can't remember the brand, but it was brilliant. It's a full top with a built in shelf bra and the straps undo like a BF bra, so you can keep your tummy covered and it's not a big hassle to BF when you need to.
Snap Bombshell, for the first night/day I wore hospital gowns as well, no point getting my stuff all mucky!

I was also staying in the hospital maternity ward and chose to wear their gowns. However I'm not *that* comfortable in them and wear bra, floppy t-shirt and undies underneath as well LOL. When it comes to undies, I actually prefer the bikini ones cause then it doesn't matter what size your tummy is.
I don't really like wearing pjs at hospital. For my first birth I took them but didn't wear them at all! My feeling is that either I'll be dressed (but I didn't want to create too much washing for myself, so I only did that on my last day this time) or in a hospital gown, cause it might seem strange to be in pjs at hospital but it's certainly not strange to wear a hospital gown LOL

When I had Haleigh I was told to jsut take things I would feel comfy in.
So I took singlets, jeans, trackies and pjs.
I only wore the hospital gown until the next day when I could get up out of bed and have a shower, I hated wearing them but they are great for the birth.
I had never heard of birthcare till coming onto ohbaby but I did start delivery at a maternity home which i asume is the same sort of thing and they had the hospital gowns there

I think I pretty much stayed in my button front nighties the whole time. I took some PJ's and some trackies/t-shirts but ended up ringing my sister and asking her to bring my trusty nighties coz they were comfy and it was really hot at Birthcare (they keep the heating turned right up for the babies).
I second plenty of granny undies tho!
