Topic: Bl**dy Plunket Posted: 14 September 2006 at 3:56pm |
damned plunket,
I had an appointment with them today at 11.30am...at their rooms and no one was there....no one has rung me...no msg left on the door or anything...how rude,
I have since found out through a friend of mine that has seen the same Karitane nurse as i do that...the plunket nurse i see is away and the nurse taking over cant do Thursdays and had rung everybody...well she hasnt rung me and they have all my contact numbers.
This is Rhiannons 5mth check and i had lots of questions...kent had taken time off work to come along as well....
So now i am going into the family centre tomorrow morning to have it all done....i am not impressed

I wont be using plunket either, this time round. It was definitely a better service previously when I had my 1st daughter 11yrs ago.

Oh gosh that sucks!! Well the old Plunket nurse dropped my brother!!!! She was putting him up on the scales (the one where you put them in the sling and hang them from the scales) and she didn't put it up properly and he fell on the ground....
Needless to say mum never went back there.
So if you don't go to Plunket who do you go to??

I loved my PLunket nurse! I nominated her for the Huggies/Watties Plunket NUrse of the year and she won for Auckland. She was so awesome. I used to drive half way across Auckland to see her after we moved since I didn't want to change to the local one, and am seriously considering taking the twins to her as well.
If you don't see Plunket you can have your Well Child Checks done by your GP or practice nurse (if they do them), or a local Well Child provider like at a Maori or Pacific Island health centre. Your GP will be able to give you a list of the local ones in your area.

I love my plunket nurse (well the karitane one) she has been a god send! especially with Baileys reflux she was here every week making sure we were ok and at that stage helped me with his feeding (my milk was flowing to fast, so she taught me how to feed laying down on my back with bailey on top!!!)
LOVELY! will be using them again with this bubs too

My plunket nurse has been great! She's been so nice about how little Josiah is, and never made me feel like a bad mum even when he fell below the 3% line for height/age and weight/age! If she wasn't coming to see me for Xavier's first appointment before Josiah turns two anyway, she was prepared to come and make an extra visit around Christmas to see how Josiah has grown!

I went to the family rooms yesterday and had Rhiannon weighed, she has gone from 13lbs 1oz to 14lbs 10oz in a month....lol solids will do that
she is thriving, very happy and healthy, and yet plunket managed to make me feel like i was doing things wrong because she cat naps through the day....has 5 bottles (of which by the end of the day has only worked out to 4) and 2 solids a day...and i was also told that i needed to structure my day better so Rhiannon slept through the day...just as well as i have faith in mine and Kents ability to raise Rhiannon as i felt awful for about an hour afterwards....even Kent said after the appointment what happened to the positive reinforcement.
At least i dont have to see them again for 4 mths and when i see my doctor i will be asking who else does the wellchild checks as i am tired of being made to feel like a bad mum

yeah, well done. What gives them the right to make you feel bad! And, like every baby is the same! the very fact that Rhianon is putting on weight and happy shows she is a good baby. I don't mind people making suggestions, but when the implication there is that you must be doing something wrong - that pees me off!

I found the Family Centre a bit frustrating when Maya was sick. She had to be weighed weekly, and she was sick and underweight and they looked at me like I shouldn't be complaining about having a small baby when I am overweight myself, like Maya is lucky she didn't inherit my metabolism! Never mind that I was in tears every week when she hadn't gained anything...
Lucky she had an awesome Paediatrician...

My plunket nurse has been ok. I can't complain, she has always been there for appointments, and is nice and friendly. But I did have an awful midwife. She left the hospital when I was in labour (just as the contractions were 1-2 mins apart and getting really sore) and didnt deliver Alex, and didnt come and see me until he was 3 days old!! I had never liked her from the start, and had thought of changing but never did. I will never put up with crap like that again. I had terrible problems breastfeeding Alex, and having a useless midwife didn't help. So if anyone is ever unhappy with people looking after them and their bubs change. I complained about my midwife after Alex was born. I dont know if anything ever happened about it. But I have told every one I know not to use her.
