At the moment I'm trying to pick colours to paint the nursery and I'm a little lost. I really like all the pale yellows/ greens but I also love the kidz colour range by resene. It's so vibrant and colourful.

Would you paint a room colourful for the future, or light because babys seem to be surrounded by light colours?

we painted the walls in Ella's room white and then decorated with pink & purple. I originally wanted to paint her room pale pink, but am really glad now that I didn't as it now reallly easy to change/update her room and it would have been far too much pink.

We painted every room in our house Tea and then added colour with accessories. For example this week I have just changed Laurens room to pink and purple for her new big girls room! I bought some cardboard things from spotlight eg rubbish bin, tissue box cover, mirror etc and have painted them with Resene colours called Dancing Girl and Hopskotch!

Just for your info, our house used to be Lime green in the bedrooms, like a pale to mid lime green and it made the rooms feel freezing cold.

I would go for a plain bland colour myself and add colour with pillows, wall hangings, duvet covers, furniture etc if I were you. Just my opinion though!

Have fun!

We are looking at using Dulux - Springcreek (half) - it is a whitish colour with a blue tinge. We are then decorating with either bold pink & blue accessories (I like this combination for girls!) if we have a girl, or bold blue and green if we have a boy.

If you like the vibrant colours, then you should go for it

We painted painted Jack's room at our old place in a pale yellow and added coloir with accesories and pictures on the walls. But then we didn't know if we were having a boy or girl.

I used to work at a paint shop and the theory about bright colours is that they can be energetic, if I remember correctly yellow is one of them. So it might be too much if you paint in bright colours.

We have a very pale lime green in the nursery - it looks creamy buttery yellow in the natural light and lime green with artificial light. It's not cold at all, but is very pale and not so in your face, which I think helps. We chose the colour before we knew if they were boys or girls, because it's a very neutral colour that goes really well with either pink or blue. It is also a very peaceful serene colour - I didn't want anything too energetic in the bedroom, as my thoughts are that a bedroom is for sleep, and you need to be calm to sleep...but that's just my opinion.

One note re. the KidzColours - they need a special base which is waaaay expensive compared to normal paint!!! Our cots and bassinets are painted Hopskotch from the KidzColour range - we only wanted 2L which was going to cost about $71 using the standard base. Then they told us they could only use the special base which came in 1L and 4L sizes only - 1L was $52 and 4L was $135 - you can guess which one we went for!!! The drawers are white with different coloured drawers - Hopskotch on 2, yellow on 2, blue on 2 and we haven't decided the kind of green we want on the last 2 drawers.

The rest of our house is going to be Quarter Spanish White, we think (haven't decided yet 100%) and we will add colour with furnishings.

We did Josh room bright green glitter with navy curtains as we were told bright colours are good for development and both dp and i like the colours. I also didnt want a light colour as i wanted the room to be dark at night (hence he has thermal blinds and blackouts). we also decided if he grew out of it or didnt like it later on we can always repaint as my uncle sells paint and we can get it cheap rest of our house is sizzle with feature walls in the bedrooms to add colour. Not everyones taste but we like it.

Daniels room is orange. It's lovely and warm and was gender neutral so if we decided to move everyone about it wouldn't matter if we had a girl (that was the thinking at the time). Our spare room is a fairly bright green. I'm going to get navy curtains for that room (haven't got around to it) and both are great and gender neutral and interesting.

Thanks for all your opinions. I think I will go for a pale colour and redecorate our other spare room in more vibrant colours when it gets empty or we want to think about another.

Can't believe how expensive it is Kate. They prefer not to tell you I think.

Yeah it's pretty crazy - I couldn't believe it when they told me. We were going to use more KidzColours in the room, but at that price we just can't justify it. There are some really awesome colours though - I have to admit the bassinets and cots look great in Hopskotch. I love some of the blues as well - we were going to use Splat on the drawers, I think it was, until we went to buy the Hopskotch.
