Just wondering if it is a real no-no to paint while pg? I really want to paint the baby room tonight, i got the paint and everythign. DH is away and I know it will take aaaggggeees for him to get around to it cos he has been so busy and tired lately. It is a really small room, and I would open all the windows wide for fresh air... I know some people say you shoudlnt paint when pg cos of the fumes or something but I really REALLY would love to get this done tonight, I really would!
What do you guys think - is it really a bad bad thing to do...?

I'm pretty sure every preggo woman goes on a mad nesting craze and redecorates the room designated as the nursery.

I think my obsession with bleach while preggo probably did a lot worse. Just make sure you get lots of air, or get one of those paint masky thingys.

If all else fails, consult midwife.

Lots of air, try and use water rather than oil based paint and take lots of breaks.....oh, and our place could do with a new coat when you're done.

if it's water based paint I wouldn't have thought there would be much in the way of fumes, never was in our house when I was painting, its only oil based paints that really stink out the place

Hi Mrs Frantic,

I also have to say that by using water based paints you should be OK but stay away from oil based paints as they are nasty - just make sure that you take regular breaks and open some windows if you can. We have just finished doing some painting at home too and it was fine

when i was preggers with jack i did alot of painting for our new place, basically the whole house and he turned out ok.....a bit loopy but otherwise normal
i've just painted jack's new room a few weeks ago and am waiting on DH to put the primer in our new room (stinky stuff!) and then i'll be painting that
so my ramble is basically to agree with the other ladies

Yep, like everyone else has said it depends on the paint. When I was preg with Maya I was feeling really motivated and rang Resene and they told me which ones to use. Only I never got around to it...

LOL, SuziE - sounds like your DH and mine think veeeery much along the same lines!  I found myself painting the interior of a house during this pregnancy (oh not OURS, no, that's still got lovely plaster walls!  Ha ha).  And those little black bugs - what is up with that?!?  I thought insects should hate the smell of paint, but noooo.

Using acrylic paint seemed OK to me.  But I did have trouble with working looking up, hands up in the air pushing the roller high up the wall - didn't go down well with being up the duff... I was soon seeing stars (and as it turned out, NOT seeing the bubbles I'd left in the paint because those lovely pretty stars were getting in the way!) and did a pretty, ahem... unique job of it!  I quickly got to the point where I refused to climb a ladder to do the top edges (having recently fallen over nothing - oh how embarrassing!) or crouch low to do the very bottom ones.  So Frantic, I say good on you for getting the whole room done - go you good thing, go!

What about if you wore one of those paint mask things that go over your mouth and nose. Would that make a difference?
