Topic: Domestic Travel Question ($) Posted: 16 October 2007 at 9:50am |
Can anyone tell me please...
Do domestic airfare prices tend to go up as it gets closer to your desired depature date or do they go down? e.g. I am thinking of joining the Mega Meetup this weekend but am not sure whether to book today or wait and see what prices are like tomorrow. The prices today are lower than they were yesterday.
Any experts out there??

Have you had a look on www.grabaseat.co.nz? Not sure what they have on there today, but it pays to have a look

Depends on your destination & of course things work on a super saver basis. 1st in 1st serve; basically. Where you going what you doing?

Hi, as a domestic travel consultant, I can tell you that the longer you leave booking your flight especially with Air NZ and Qantas, the higher you will pay. Pays to book well in advance (before, what we used to call the "28 days in advance" fare). The catch with the cheap fares is, you have to fly at certain times to get the bargins and they are always subject to availability.
Hope this helps

Well I ended up going to the Mega Meet (yay! It was great!) and the initial flight costs weren't too bad. I missed the cheapest option by about 30 secs.
BUT on my way to the airport realised my wallet had been stolen, had to borrow MILs EFTPOS card, arrived at the check-in counter bang on 11.10am (11.30 flight) and got turned away! My flights were non-refundable so my only option was to pay an additional $120!!!!!!!!!!!!!! to get on the next plane. Needless to say there was a particularly silly looking me in tears at the airport LOL. When I got to Wgtn Emma kindly said I looked very stressed :)
So it ended up being a VERY VERY expensive trip.
