You might find this useful, Kazzle...

Movers Checklist

Otherwise you could try various moving companies who usually have online moving checklists too.

Having had moved about 7 times in the last 6 years, I have the list firmly engrained in my mind!!

For me, the most important thing is to forward your mail. Everytime you get a letter/bill that has been redirected call that person/company and change your address.

You will be surprised how many people come into the bank telling us off for not sending out statements or mortgage fixed term ending notices and it turns out they moved like a year ago and never contacted the bank.

Leave a box for your cleaning things as these will be the last things packed after everything is gone and on that note... make sure you leave the vacuum cleaner and mop!!! (We once moved and realised after everything was done that we had packed the vacuum and box of cleaning stuff... so annoying!)

Good luck with the move

I agree with Melnel re: the bank, I get my statements online so I never get mail from the bank and when we moved I forgot to let them know we had moved. A few months later I got a nasty shock to discover that someone was writing cheques against my account. Turns out that coz I was half way thru my chequebook the bank had automatically sent out a replacement one and it had gone to the old address, and somehow, someway, someone had gotten hold of it and been using it fraudulently.
Luckily the bank were really good and reimbursed me the amounts on the stolen cheques and cancelled them straight away, but it was stress I didn't need when I was 30+ weeks preg with twins! Lesson learned!

Remember to at least hook up the power at the new house! And have the jug, some mugs, coffee, tea, milk etc in the first box that comes off the truck so you can have a cuppa as soon as you arrive. Give you a bit of a boost before the daunting task of unpacking!

Put up the beds as soon as you can. That way even if you don't get much else done you aren't doing it at midnight.

Oh and don't worry about packing the wardrobe stuff. Just put it all on the bed hangers and all and then wrap the bedding around it and put it in the boot of the car. Saves ironing and also you can just put it all on the beds when you get there and voila! wardrobe is done and bedding is on beds.

Are you packing your own things? What I found helpful was to not mix boxes. Ie if you are packing laundry stuff and you have space left in your box, leave it empty! Don't go to the next room and muddle it all up. Otherwise you'll be left with a mess at the unpacking end.

I went and bought some coloured stickers so that the main areas of the house were coloured. For example, Yellow=bedrooms, Blue=kitchen, Orange=garage, Green=lounge. Was helpful for the guys unpacking the truck too.

In the last week before we moved house, I did myself an organised list of what was for all meals during that week and packed everything else. I did some double/prep meals so that the last two nights were just re-heated dinners from the freezer. That meant that all the cooking stuff (worcester sauce, spices, flour, all that stuff) could be packed in advance.

Make sure you have something to eat in this box - nothing worse than not being able to find something to eat
