Topic: Toddler Seats on P & T (or similar) Posted: 23 July 2009 at 5:20pm |
Hi Ladies,
We're looking at buying a buggy and wonder if someone could enlighten me on how happy a newborn is under a toddler in a buggy that uses a toddler seat? How long is the 'underneath' baby happy to be underneath? I am wondering if it's worth investing in a P&T just because it has a toddler seat. I'm unsure how long it would be useful for if the child underneath decides they don't like being under there....
Hope this makes sense...it's a reasonable investment and I'd like to buy the right buggy first time.
Thanks, oh wise ones!

When I had Alyssa we knew we would want another child so we futureproofed by getting a pram with a toddler seat attachment.
To give you an idea of how other buggys with toddler seats are, this is the Valco Trimode that I'm currently selling here
I really liked the way it is set up so the child in the back isn't just lying there staring at the back of the pram like in the P & T's.. that was my preference anyway. Kayla never seems to mind having her sis sitting up front (when we have needed to use it anyway), so the positioning seems to work well.

I didnt like the phil and ted, I got one when I fell pregnant with this baby, and after a while I decided that I also didnt like the idea of the seat underneath, you can also put the toddler/baby seat on top of the phil and teds and have baby in the main part but you have to get baby out through the back of the pram not the side, which I decided would annoy me! lol So I sold the Phil and Teds.
I got a pram similar to the one in pepi's picture, except ours in a steelcraft strider, I have also just the last week, bought a twin mountain buggy, which Ive decided I will use when I have both kids with me, if Im out with just one I will use the steelcraft.

When Isla was a newborn I only ever got her in and out of our P&T through the back of the pram. I also didnt use the straps and had her facing me, but I guess the newborn would have to face the correct way if the doubles kit seat was being used at the top.
The newer P&T buggys have reclining 'toddler seats' too, so when baby is older enough not to lie completely flat, they would go in the 'toddler' seat at the back with the older child sitting in the main buggy part.

I don't have a NB yet but have often taken 2 toddlers out in the P&T and have had no problems with it. I just swap the kids around from time to time while we are out so they get turns and they are happy.
My SIL has a NB and a 2.5 year old and she has loved having the toddler seat on the front with NB underneath as he toddler is quite happy to sit in the pram again after refusing for a couple of months.
Edited to add: I love my P&T and for us it was by the far the best choice for our lifestyle as we travel heaps! Its has done Aussie a couple of time, Bali and lots of road trips round NZ. It is hardwearing and looks almost new still.

I've put my boy who is one in the back to sleep at a nap time while having the toddler attachment on top of the P&T. His little feet stuck out under the toddler seat and he was perfectly happy to have a sleep then when he wakes up I just put the toddler seat in the back and decide which baby/toddler will go in the back. I like to switch them around when so they both get time in the front if they are on a big outing but neither of them mind being in the back. Actually my boy prefers it I think because he can look up and see mummy.

I loved my P&T, but I used it like a car, lol. I walked my DS1 to / from school, has DS2 in the seat on top & DS3 NB lying in the cocoon under, it was great, we walked in sun & rain, they both stayed dry & happy, & I did heaps of walking, when DS3 was older he went into the seat at the back.
Only problem I had was when they got bigger, & heaver it got harder to push up the BIG hills.
But I recommend them if you are doing heaps of walking, kids are not to big & heavey & you want a smaller pram that will fit in the car, when out shopping & not take up the whole footpath, lol.
If I was getting one now I would look at the vibe

The last family I nannied for had a P&T Sport and had a NB in the bottom with toddler on top. I don't think the NB really noticed and then once she was old enough to look around I think their Mum switched them over fairly soon after she could sit in the "toddler" seat. I thought it was great and if I didn't need a pram that works as a "travel system" we would have bought one with C. We'll probably get one when we have #2 though

wev got the p&t dash with toddler seat. We tried putting baby in main seat and toddler in front toddler seat but alas it did not work for us bcos astin is a tank!!! so he was almost sitting on karma!!! but bcos the todd seat reclines we now just put karma in that and astin in main part which works out well for us and certainly isnt as heavy to push that way.
I love my pram
