Topic: Low Baby Posted: 01 June 2006 at 3:09pm |
I just had my midwife visit this morning and was told ellas head is very very low in my pelvis. Is this engaged? and from your own experience how long after did you go into labour?

Check your midwife note thingys and see what she put your number out of 5 as...
I'm pretty sure 5/5 is in labour, so maybe 4/5 is engaged?!?
Where is someone who actually knows about this stuff??

I thought it was 1/5 that was engaged? Don't quote me on that - my normally great memory lets me down when I'm pregnant!

I'm pretty sure you're right about 5/5 being in labour, Nikki.

Our girl is sitting at D2, which my midwife said was good, but say if she was at D4 then she would be doing more than just having a feel of my tum from the outside LOL

I think they can sit there for ages and even come back up. My friends baby was engaged for about 2 weeks I think from memory. I dont think its an indication of labour starting but I could be wrong.

Yep, they can go down and then come up - Andrew went from D2 to not at all engaged and then bck down again over the space of three weeks.

She didnt do an internal but she felt really low and i even felt a clunk when she was feeling babys head, she didnt mention anything i dont think all i have in my preggy journal is:
Under Presn: A down arrow above CEPH
Under Posn: ROA
Anyone got any ideas? I only saw it after she left lol

Jacob was at 1/5 for about 6 weeks or so, and 2/5 until I was about 2 hours from pushing him out, they gave me a drip with sumthin' in it to remedy that...

As far as I'm aware they don't do an internal until you're in labour, unless there is a very good reason otherwise.

It's more of an american thing - you hear about loads of internals on US websites. Here they tend to leave all of your girly bits well alone until someone is pushing through from the other side. The down arrow above CEPH means that you are still pretty high. Also, if you can still feel the head then there is a fair bit of engagement to go. She'll bounce up and down a wee bit yet. There is important growing to do...

A friend of my sisters was engaged for near on 4 weeks! Or so she said... I don't know if this is medically possible at all, but it seemed every week she would drop even lower and still went a few days over her due date.

Rhiannon was engaged for from 32 wks and i had her at 38wks, so its swings and roundabouts really, as everybody is different, my first internal was when i actually went into labour, so things here are nothing like you see on tv.
Oh i so remember feeling her bounce everytime i walked,

CEPH means Head Down and ROA means she is anterior(spine along your belly) on your right side. Which is all good.
Maya didn't engage until I was well into established labour, she was posterior and had to turn her fat self around before she could get her head down.
