Partners and Xmas Presents

I was just wondering what, if any, set up you and your partner have in regards to buying presents for each other?

I am quite hard to buy for- I'm very fussy and I figure if DH is going to be spending money it may as well be on something I want. On the few occasions hes been left to his own devices I have got a 'book of insults', a book AND a DVD that I already own or teddy bears. Now I can understand that some adults still like soft toys, but I am not one of them. So most years I blatantly hint (which never works) then when he has left it to the last minute and looks like hes going to buy me something horrid I tell him outright what I want. Not terribly romantic but in the end we're both happy

For him I listen throughout the year to what he wants, save up my own money and buy it for him with heaps of time left to spare. Like FI this year I got him this 'Hamiltron- city of the future' Tshirt he showed me online in July, a signed copy of Tanas book that he mentioned wanting when it was first released and House season 3 a programme which he loves but missed most of the season. These are all things that he would really want to buy for himself but wouldn't.

I sometimes wish he were the type of thoughful person who could know what to get me but I guess he probably wishes that I were the type of person who was happy with what they were given lol Teach him for marrying an only child! So this arrangement works for us.

So what do you guys do? Do you have price limits (we tried that but didn't work)? Or do you agree not to buy anything (like my Dad and his wife)? Or are you both the type who get each other thoughtful wonderful surprise gifts that you both love? hehe

this year we are getting a BBQ and geting each other a $30 present. For birthday and xmas I don't hint. i say "you can buy me this for xmas if you like". i circle things in mailers. Lewis would usually have no idea. Although must admit to getting a really cool necklace one year. i unwrapped the present to find a PC game box about star wars. lewis is standing there saying Do you like it? I say are you kidding? I hate games. what were you thinking? I open the box and my necklace is inside.

We each have a list that gets added through during the year. It's just a list of stuff we would like and it gets used as present ideas but we don't have to buy from that list.

We have $100 price limit.

Dh and i usually just tell eachtoehr what we want/need. Like, i need a new Haridryer. SO i told him. Granted he has other ideas and already know's what he's getting me (GH3, I LOVE that game!!!).

As for him, he is the hardest person I know to buy for. the only hobby he has is computer or really expensive books (ie The dune series, the WHOLE series lol) So i just ask: WHat do you need? or want.
This year its an outdoor reclining chair. so thats what he's getting lol

I usually have to tell him the things I want. We generally don't buy much for each other at xmas and do birthdays more as that is more of a special day, and xmas for the boys.

We have a $50 limit for both birthdays and Xmas. Last year he went a bit overboard (wedding, honeymoon, house - and won't I be hearing about it for years to come? ), this year we have a tent on layby (exciting stuff) so it's a $20 limit. I stupidly gave him his eftpos card one day and it seems that he blew that budget... I blew mine by $2.99 as I bought him a CD that he asked for.

I always tell DH what I want but this year he seems to have thought about it himself I've only ever had one birthday pressie though as he can't get his head around birthdays (don't happen in his family).

Yay Xmas! I promised not to sneak a peek at my pressie (I have a habit of it), but I couldn't promise not to poke and prod it...

DH & I were at the mall last night & I showed him what I wanted in the Body Shop so my present is all sorted .

It does seem a little silly to have to tell them what we'd like but it's either that or end up up something you really don't want .

DH's birthday is in Jan so he's going to go & buy a wetsuit as a combined Xmas & B'day present. But I usually just buy him clothes as he never goes & buys any for himself.

Well this year for Christmas DF's taking me away for a weekend to be pampered seeing as it'll be our last Christmas without the pitter-patter of little feet - So we're taking the chance whilst we still can.

Having said that, I've had to make all the arrangements etc and I'm pretty sure the only reason he's looking forward to it is because he thinks he'll be getting a dirty hotel romp Curious as to how 'dirty' he thinks I'll be able to get seeing as I've got this massive gut sticking out 3 feet in front of me, lol.
