Ive been told that if I dont go spontaneously I will probably be induced at around 38 weeks but my midwife keeps saying it would be much better for me to go spontaneously as its much nicer than an induction. I get that they would be a bit uncomfortable and no doubt I would have to have people poking and proding 'up there' but whats actually involved in an induction?

i was induced, and i had gel inserted to start with and that didnt hurt, but the gel didnt work (for me), then they started the drip, which worked within about 20mins.

as long as you remember that being induced with the drip does make the contracts stronger and harder.

Also with being induced with the drip, you are more or less tied to the bed as you also need to be monitor to see how strong and long your contractions are and also to monitor how the baby is handling the contractions etc.

and i dont mean to be nosey but are you having some complications with your pregnancy as they dont tend to induce unless you are overdue or something isnt going right.

I hope you go into labour naturally

They may also break your water to bring on contractions if you're dilated but not contracting.

I'm going to be induced slightly early or on my due date because Andrew was big, got his shoulder stuck and this wee man is looking big on the scans too. At least I know I should make it to the hospital in time (I have short labours)

I was induced because Jake was determined to stay huddled up in there until it was time to go top university.
The midwife told me that first they would break my waters, and if nothing happened, they would go onto the drip.
She broke my waters and told me to go for a walk and to come back when I was in pain, and the contractions were well-established. we went down the lift and then came straight back up and Jake was born about four hours later.
I went into labour spontenously with taine and can honestly say that I don't think there was much difference in terms of pain. My labour with Taine started pretty muich with my waters breaking.

Anyway, hoping your induction will be as straight forward as mine. BTW, reading birth stories featuring inductions can be really really scarey. When my midwife said "induce", I read up too much and was TERRIFIED!

the first time i was induced with my first daughter i was given the gel later at night, just a small dose to get things started, my contractions had started but werent strong or regular so they went to break my waters the next morning but as they were about to stick the "knitting needle!" in they went on there own my contractions stayed pretty irregular and i was given the drip at around lunch time as well as an epidural to lower my high blood pressure and my daughter was born a few hours later, i was bed-ridden thanks to the epi!

with my second daughter, i was inducd 10 days over due, given the gel at 8am to get things started as she was still high up and cervix wasnt showing signs of readiness! i went home for an hour and my contractions started up around lunchtime. at 3pm i was 3cm's dialated, contractions strong, my waters got broken and from there it happened quickly. again a few hours later, with no other drugs emma was born.

i was always told horror stories about induction, but i was fine, contractions were strong but i coped without drugs etc... but everyone is different.

I was induced at 9am with the gel being put in and contractions started about an hour later but then about 7pm that nite I had the drip inserted to bring on contractions faster. Then at 11.45 piper finally arrived. Very long day

I was induced due to Toxemia - Gel was inserted about 8:45am and by 9:20 I was having very strong period like pains... while in Labour I could hardly walk due to the pain (more uncomfortable and also was young and nieve and didn't know what to expect!!) broke my waters at 3pm and Arna was born at 9:16pm... Hope all goes well !!
