Topic: cost of antenatal classes? Posted: 20 April 2006 at 9:22am |
My midwife has reccomended a course of antenatal classes which run for 8 weeks, but I was pretty shocked yesterday to find out they cost $210 for the course!
Ofcourse I have never done anything like this before but taht seems a bit on the high side - or is it?
The classes are in Auckland - North SHore.
Can anyone else give me an idea if this is a good price or expensive in comparison to theirs?
Thanks

I would say that's through the roof ! I'm on the North Shore, and the classes I'm going to are free, through the North Shore hospital - doesn't even matter that I'm not planning to deliver there. I'm personally against paying for classes, and more so now that I've started going to them, so wouldn't ever pay that much even if I had to. Oh, and the duration of my classes is for six weeks, on Thursday nights (class #2 tonight).
Hope that helps !

Hey Mrs Frantic - I am pencil booked at the Parents Centre course in Manukau and it costs $190 for the antenatal course and a post natal (mum and bubs) course. Or else just $150 for the antenatal. There are various free courses around but I've heard the Parents Centre one is really good

I went thru North Shore Hosp as well. I can't remember who I contacted but I can find the number for you if you want? Not sure I'd be so keen on paying that much for them either!!

You just need to ring North Shore Hospital and ask to be put through the line for Ante-natal classes. There is an answer phone and you just need to leave your details. They may take a couple of days but will come back to you.

If you just ring the general number for the North Shore Hospital, and ask to be put through to the antenatal clinic, THEN ask whoever answers at that end about classes, they'll put you through to the message machine that you have to leave your details on. The lady who organises booking you in is called Barbara Once you've done that, she'll send you a map and a letter either by post or by email, but a word of warning - the map is HOPELESS ! It is a VERY bad map. Just go into the main entrance, and ask for directions at the main desk, I think they're used to redirecting a lot of people for the classes LOL

We did ours at an evening class at the local high school. It cost $85.00. Maybe there is a high school doing evening classes in your area?

I paid $145 at Birthcare. Have no idea why, since I could have done them for free at Nat Womens. Plus because they were expensive I was the only young single Mum in a group of 30-something married couples so felt like a duck out of water. If I had done the free ones at Nat Womens they might have been a bit more diverse.
