I only ate luncheon if it came from the hugons vacuum packs, not grom the deli, as I couldn't say how long it had been there for.
Coco pos are great, seems to be a universal preggy thing. I also loved giant wine gums..

I thought all deli meats were off limits, unless cooked to very hot

I was hungry for fresh pasta with pomodoro sauce, so picked some up at Pak N Save. Not feeling the love right at the moment tho
But no, luncheon isn't safe - it's like ham etc. a listeria risk. That said, I ate heaps of it when I was preg with Maya befre I knew about the listeria risk and she's obviously fine.
I ate those flavoured tuna cans in sandwiches with cheese and lettuce, and salad sandwiches, and those freezer meals from McCain heated up in th microwave at work.

luncheon of any kind isnt safe! my sister used to eat that is it huttons?? (kind of a log type one that's sealed) thinking it was safe too, and she told me it was fine... but i know that any COLD meat isnt safe! no matter if its wrapped, it still has that listeria risk, like jezsika said, your midwife should of given you a booklet on food safety.
this is what i copied from a food safety website on foods in pregnancy....
Processes meats Ham, salami, luncheon, pate, pastrami, biltong, jerky (dried meat) etc. Don’t eat unless heated until steaming hot
Cold cooked poultry Any cold pre cooked poultry (e.g. chicken, turkey etc.) Don’t eat unless heated until steaming hot
i understand the risk of listeria is low, but while we are pregnant our immunities are reduced so we are more suseptable (sorry spelling!) to infections and things.
we all make our own choices though.... its hard i have totally craved deli meat, but will wait till its safe.
as for suggestions, one thing i love is yoghurt, still cant stand bread much! argh!
i hope my post hasnt offended anyone, appoligies in advance if i have.

Maria posted a link to the food safety website a while back, I wonder if she still as it (I'm too brain dead to go back and hunt old threads for it).
Mum2emj - I'm with you. As soon as I found out about the listeria risk with Maya I became the #1 food nazi. And same again this time. Went to Pacifika this morning and didn't eat a single thing for fear of it not being safe. Oh, and teh fact that just the smells of the food cooking made me dry wretch

Did you guys notice on the side of those log type luncheons it says "must be consumed within 3 days"? I used to buy those for Ella and we would have them for a week or two, until I noticed that
Maybe they just put it there so they can't be sued? I'm sure it would last longer than that.
